My son lived in Soda Springs, then Truckee on Donner Lake, so I've done a lot of hiking along the Donner Pass tracks. Now that he & his family live in Reno we recently rode the Zephyr from Sacramento to Reno for a different perspective. Great scenery.

161 makes me smile, have an N scale P42 with that number :) Running the same set of cars even, 42 is the other locomotive in my consist. Supposed to be the Coast Starlight but I guess it matches the California Zephyr much better.

when I think of Donner Pass, I remember the Donner party and the tracks we see today might've been where the party had footprints, 1846-47 the railroad was in 1868

With PSR in full effect they have combined 2 empty grainers to 220 cars eastbound. I've captured that. Manifests can get to over 150 cars.
