Complete driving tour of Wilshire Boulevard (end to end) from Santa Monica to Downtown Los Angeles with a slight detour off Beverly Hills due to road closure.
Wilshire Boulevard is one of the principal east-west arterial roads in the Los Angeles area of Southern California, extending 15.83 miles from Ocean Avenue in the city of Santa Monica east to Grand Avenue in the Financial District of downtown Los Angeles.
One particularly famous stretch of the boulevard between Fairfax and Highland Avenues is known as the Miracle Mile. Many of Los Angeles' largest museums are located there. The area just to the east, between Highland Avenue and Wilton Place, is referred to as the "Park Mile". Between Westwood and Holmby Hills, several tall glitzy condominium buildings overlook this part of Wilshire, giving it the title of Millionaire's Mile. This section is also known as the Wilshire Corridor and Condo Canyon.
The Wilshire Corridor, located next to Century City, is one of Los Angeles' busiest districts, and contains many high-rise residential towers. The Fox and MGM studios are located in a series of skyscrapers, along with many historic Los Angeles hotels.
Wilshire Boulevard is also the principal street of Koreatown, the site of many of Los Angeles' oldest buildings, as well as skyscrapers. Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire are among Los Angeles' most densely populated districts.

For someone from the other side of the world, who's never seen LA in real life, only in the movies, this looks incredibly weird. Very different than imagined, clean, new, not "american" in a sense you get when you've never been to a place but you imagine it completely differently. Also, the combo of palms and a coast-city with skyscrapers makes it even weirder cause we don't have anything like it where I live. A clash of the senses.

Fantastic tour. It’s the first time i watch this kind of video and I don’t want to skip any part. Things move quickly most of time (limited number of stops) and uninteresting parts are cut. I have truly and really discovered this boulevard, with some unexpected parts like a series of tall appartement buildings. All great!

In 1966-67, I took this trip both ways by bus five days a week for nine months commuting between West Covina and UCLA. (The "Freeway Flier" did the job between downtown and West Covina. Five hours total traveling per day. I got all my homework done plus a nap. Five hours per day of travel. At home, I'd have dinner and practice the piano, and then it would be time for bed. What a year! Lots of the old buildings are still there, some remodeled. It was nice to see the old May Co., now part of the LACMA complex, as well as the old Bullock's with its elaborate tower, featured in lots of old film noirs. When I had time, I would stroll around Old Downtown -- not shown here -- marveling at the cool ornate old buildings from the 20s to 40s. Now of course those that are left are much much older. Thanks for this thorough tour!

I used to live in Santa Monica near Wilshire/26th and worked in Westwood maybe 20 years ago or less. I would take the Metro bus to Downtown. 20 years ago, most of Wilshire hasnt changed a lot. Some new taller buildings like in Downtown LA, Koreatown, Mid Wilshire. But overall it looks 90% the same from 20 years ago. 20 years from now, I think Wilshire will still look mostly the same in this video. Sure the Metro subway will have new stations, and you might have some taller buildings that will replace many of the short buildings especially near Metro stations, and also LACMA will replace a new museum that will go across Wilshire. But Wilshire Blvd is built up with hundreds of mid and high rise/skyscraper buildings and most new construction is happening in other areas were most major streets are mostly buildings that are 1-3 levels. hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd are building a lot of taller buildings that 7+ levels and higher. Only Downtown LA is building so many skyscrapers and high rise condos on many streets. Thank you for this video. I am going to watch all your other videos and hope you do more driving or walking videos in other areas like Pasadena old town to the Rose Bowl or Downtown LA Arts District, Studio City walking, Downtown Culver City to the Metro station, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey to Venice Canals and Abbott Kinney. Downtown Burbank, Downtown South Pasadena, Echo Park Lake, Los Feliz are all great walking areas.

Every time I think of Wilshire Boulevard I think of the 1997 movie Volcano! The one starring Tommy Lee Jones. A Volcano erupts at the La Brea Tar Pits 26:16 and lava flows down Wilshire destroying everything! They create a barricade using concrete freeway dividers to stop the lava at the Wilshire/Fairfax intersection 25:15. In front of the May Company Building and Peterson Automotive Museum!🌋👍

At 12:00, stop the video. The white building ahead to the left (above the green bus) is the building that Batman and Robin flew over in real life in the Batcopter in the 1960’s movie and the bikini clad ladies waved to them as they were on their way to the shark encounter where they used the shark repellant Batspray for the first (and only) time. Honest to god it really is that building and it was called Kirkeby Center in those days but not sure what its called now. Jump next to 13:55 and there’s the other building this time on the right hand side. I’m not stringing you along here see for yourself. Fabulous. Thank you.

Weird place for a European. Lights on the other side of the crossroad, no runabouts, almost no people walking and cars are the only means of transportation with a very few buses. No trams, kick scooters, electric scooters, motorcycles, bicycles, etc…, speed limits are just a recommendation, public transports almost missing.
