"Active Sonar, maximum power, override safety procedures, now!" Active sonar is artificially capped at about 200 decibels. At 212 decibels water flashes into steam, and human bone shatters into powder. We can easily produce sonar at 300+ decibels with modern technology. We don't bother, because there's no point. Being eaten by large unknown organisms is just about the best reason to do so. Just give them a few minutes, and plenty of power and a modern nuclear submarine could probably melt their way through.
