Its been 23 years since I was on Railay. More than half of the things that I am now seeing in this video didn’t even exist on Railay. So shocked to see how much it has been developed. I remember that when you arrived on the island you had to get out of the boat in the water to get to the beach. They day I came in the water was up to our waist. We had to carry bags over our heads. Women who could not lift the heavy weight over their heads we had to go back and help them bring their bags onshore. I now see that they have set up a pontoon so you can walk onto the boats instead of getting into the water. About time !!! The entire stretch of restaurants and cafes beginning with the Railay Cafe was not there. It was all trees, bushes and sand. None of those restaurants and shops were there. I remember there used to be a open garbage dump right around there. When you walked past it at night you could hear very big rats and other animals rummaging through the garbage. It was very bad for the environment. A lot of the new businesses and especially the paved walkways in this video just weren’t there. I remember sitting on the beach in the evenings and watching the guys play soccer/football on the beach. It was kind of like the Leonardo DiCaprio movie The Beach Which is what inspired me to go to Thailand in 2001. Glad you posted this video.

Yes, there is a lot on Railay beach that is new and changed. I have been there several times, the first time in 1998 and then there were only a few small restaurants and an internet cafe where you could send emails and messages to friends abroad. They played football and volleyball on the beach and when it was dark they went to their room and slept. Otherwise, there are a lot of tourists every day, but it's still always nice to come back to this wonderful beach. Glad you liked the video.

@@dragbras1212 Let me tell you brother after around 8:00 p.m. everything would start closing down. We had a few souvenir places, not real boutiques, but a few funky places that would stay open a little later for last minute sales, but that was it. There was a bar right there on the beach where you could buy your Beer Chang's and Singha. You could hang on the beach until late and then go back to your bungalow. There were not a lot of tourists then. You had to bring cash with you because I don't remember there being any money exchanges or ATMs. I found places to stay for as little as $7.00 and $15.00 US a night. $15.00 a night was luxury accommodations. I was still using a Sony Walkman for my music with cassette tapes. There were no cell phones or cell phone service then. I don't remember the internet cafe ??? I could be wrong. I usually love to swim on vacation, but i remember that year the water was dark green almost turning brown and i spent the entire trip on the beach. I am shocked to see so many tourists on the island and the beach now. I remember I also went to Maya Beach/Ao Maya the year after the movie came out and the place was just mobbed with people. you couldn't really enjoy it and the experience was nothing like the movie. I see videos of Maya beach now and that too is built up into a tourist attraction with paved roads and walkways and shops. They had to shut it down for a few years because the tourists trashed the place. I thought then that Thailand was finished. It was over. I don't know if I will go back, but you should never say never. Thanks again for posting.

Yes, there were far too many jellyfish at the end of March and beginning of April. Very scary! Thank you for watching.

Hi, it was filmed in the middle of the day and it was incredibly hot, around 36-37°C therefore less people. But otherwise there are a lot of tourists in Ao Nang and Railay Beach right now. Thanks for watching.
