Did anyone else happen to notice how the Alaska Airlines swirl on the winglet blended in with the body of the Southwest plane in the background. Check it out at the 8:51 mark.

Wow... you must have had a really good tailwind to do this flight in 4 and a half hours. Good views taking off from HNL and good views coming into SFO. Now, I need to rest up from the jet lag form watching this video, from losing 3 hours. With all of the people complaining about changing the clocks twice a year, it makes me wonder how they cope with doing overseas flights if a 1-hour time change is too much for them. Anyhow, another fine video on your part.

I love this video! Thank you for doing such a great job with this one! The buzz and scream of that jet are fabulous! I also liked that we could hear the announcements better, and I appreciate you holding the phone more, or so it seems. You can really hear everything very well, and sometimes it's just nice to be closer to everyone and hearing everything more centrally, because the window can overtake the sounds inside the cabin. I'm also looking forward to mroe of your longer videos soon. Keep up the great work as always, and I hope your wife and little girl are all doing well.

Its good Alaska gives out some free snacks and goodies! The last time I flew out of HNL with Delta, I just got crying babies and a bumpy ride. I believe Hawaiian does so as well.

This is probably going to sound somewhat dumb but I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii but I won’t go because I don’t like that fact that you fly over the ocean for over 4 hours. I know the chances of the plane having a problem is very low but let’s say the plane had some sort of engine malfunction or something that would require an emergency landing, how would that work when. You’re flying over the middle of the ocean? If you’re flying over land, there’s obviously going to be a place to make an emergency landing. I’ve always wondered what would happen if a plane needed to make an emergency landing while flying over the ocean. That’s my only fear of flying to Hawaii. I’ve never been afraid of flying. I’ve done many times but I’ve never gone on a flight longer than 3 and a half hours and and I’ve never flown anywhere out of the states. Also, do they fly a bit faster than normal on those longer flights? That is another random thing I’ve wondered
@LegitimateAviation2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if this will boost your confidence, but hawaii flights with emergency landings will either turn back, or land in the ocean. However, bc of the latest technology, rescue teams would be able to find that flight much faster. International flights will generally follow land mass when possible. For example, flying to Asia from the US, you will cruise alongside Alaska incase something does go wrong.

So, your concern isn't dumb. Many people have the same concern, but I always try to explain why it shouldn't be a concern. Aviation has come a long way in the 100+ years its existed and flying today, even over large bodies of water is extremely safe. You're far more likely to be struck and killed by lightning, or be killed by a shark than to be in a plane crash. And both of those are already extremely rare. So... Planes are very safe in today's world regardless. They go though thousands of hours of testing and certification to make sure they're safe. And as we've seen recently, when something slips through the cracks like the 737 Max issues and there are crashes, they are promptly fixed to never happen again. Aircraft that fly over large bodies of water, go though an even more intensive process of certification call ETOPS. The popular slang explanation for that acronym is Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim. But what it actually stands for is Extended-range Twin-engine Operations Performance Standards. This is a very strict set of standards that any aircraft operating over water has to meet. Any plane you board that flies to Hawaii or anywhere else over the ocean will have an ETOPS logo painted on the fuselage of the aircraft somewhere. Usually on the landing gear doors or on the tail. Anyway, to boil the ETOPS rules down, it's basically a very strict standard that requires planes that fly over the water to be able to continue flying for extended periods of time with only 1 of their 2 engines operating. Planes these days are designed to operate perfectly fine with only 1 engine operating, but to get ETOPS certification, airlines have to demonstrate that the aircraft they plan to use are indeed capable of flying for hundreds and even thousands of miles with a dead engine. This is a universal standard in aviation now, and it's why thousands of flights every day fly over vast distances of water with no issues. You can read more about ETOPS here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETOPS In the end, it's never been safer to fly long distances, especially over water. For your other question, they fly the same speed over water as land. Since no commercial aircraft can fly supersonic any longer, they all cruse at the same speeds regardless of whether they are over land or water. Now, wind speeds and directions may affect this slightly based on the location, but otherwise there's no difference. I hope that all helps my friend! Thanks for watching!

which row do you sit in?
@sla312 жыл бұрын
On this particular flight? If so, I don’t remember off the top of my head but it’s listed in the description. If you’re talking about in general, then it depends on a wide variety of factors.

Great fly! Do you think Airbus is better than Boeing, in your opinion? Because Boeing has a lot of issues and scandal related to Boeing MAX.
@sla312 жыл бұрын
Airbus has had its share of scandals and issues too. Boeing is just having more issues today. They both make fine airplanes. I personally like flying on Airbus aircraft myself though.
