This is a 32-mile section from Interstate 5 heading westward to Soda Lake Road, which enters Carrizo Plain.
I'm on my way to Carrizo Plain National Monument. Exiting at Northbound Interstate 5 exit number 225 and turning left will lead you to California Route 166.
In Kern County, it is called Maricopa highway. The straight road leads directly to Maricopa. Gasoline prices are approximately $1 per gallon higher than in Los Angeles.
California Route 166 merges with California Route 33 in Maricopa and continues southward. The scenery along the mountain path is stunning.
Turn right onto Soda Lake Road as you enter Carrizo Plain.
