@@mish375, you forgot to mention Hannibal Barca, who almost broke Rome and, even after his death, was highly regarded by many for centuries as a tactical genius. Only Carthage's political gridlock was the one thing that defeated him. The Romans feared a repeat of his military success, and later, Spartacus's revolt clearly was a brief reminder that anyone who understood Rome's military tactics alongside utilizing the terrain would see a much better success of victory against the Roman Republic/Empire.

Ahsoka series was the first ive ever heard of thrawn... thought he was just some big stronger dude that just does whatever he wants and rebel simply feared him for that.... didn't realized he's a tactical war genius with well spoken mannerism and a sociopathic engima... This video is the second video ive seen of him... and he just hit top 10 best characters in star wars for me...

Thrawn seems like a sociopath, but he actually isn't at all. He's just able to separate his emotions from his logic to an extreme degree. But he does have a small circle of close allies he considers friends, Like Pellaeon and Vanto. And he's so intelligent that he's 10 steps ahead of everyone, forming moves and counter moves to enemies not even on the board yet.

Star Wars rebels is his only other appearance, AND specifically season 3. A little cheesy series in the first season but becomes VERY real intense series when Thrawn appears, definitely go give it a look if you interested in seeing more of the Heir to the Empire

@@mish375 & to user-su: Thrawn is a what if you had combined a character like Jon Snow with Stannis Baratheon in Game of Thrones against an unknown enemy with the deep military mindset of Sun Tzu, Hannibal Barca, and Julius Caesar. He isn't a sociopath, as some would think. Timothy Zahn wanted to bring something to Star Wars that resembled the great military minds of known human history, something that would make the audience question the morals of both the current New Republic and a reimagined and recovering Imperial Empire. Not to mention to humanize the Imperials and portray the New Republic/Resistance as not truly perfect good guys. The New Republic repeated the same mistakes and corruption the Old Republic faced just before the Clone Wars broke out. The empire brought stabilization & high centralization to the galaxy despite the radical ideology of Tarkin & Palapine. The divide between the Core planets and outer Colonies remained tense even though the Imperial Empire was defeated but not entirely broken after Palapine's death. In the books, the New Republic struggled to maintain order after the Empire. Look at the geopolitical situation in the Halo Universe when the outer colonies wanted to rebel against the inner/UNSC government core planets and later the creation of the Spartan program. The same could be said in Star Trek during the Cardassian border wars and the horrible treaty that the Federation made against the wishes of their colonists in the outer rim of Federation space - thus the rebellion by the Maquis during the TNG, DS9 & Voyayer arcs. As Captain Ben Sisko once stated in Star Trek DS9, " You look out the window of Starfleet Headquarters and you see paradise. Well it's *easy* to be a saint in paradise, but the Maquis do not live in paradise! Out there, in the Demilitarized Zone, all the problems haven't been solved yet! Out there, there are no saints! Just people! Angry, scared, determined people, who are going to do whatever it takes to survive, whether it meets with Federation approval or not!" Thrawn understands that the New Republic would be very weak, just as the Federation was in Star Trek when faced with the harsh reality of war against the Dominion from the Beta Quadrant. A non-existent or weak military with a dependency on high diplomacy to solve everything doesn't work hand in hand in the real world. Thrawn wants to protect his people in the Unknown regions and, foremost, the galaxy as a whole. Most of the outer rim planets would likely side with Thrawn against what Luke, Leia, and the New Republic wanted to do.

@@SolidAvenger1290 I have no idea on Game of Thrones so I'll take your word for it. Even though I love the medieval period, everyone being an unlikeable character would make me bored watching it. I'll just assume your info is correct. As I said before, Thrawn isn't a sociopath and nowhere near one. He's simply able to disassociate his logic from his emotions to an extreme degree to get the job done. Palpatine couldn't even sense emotion in him, which is why Thrawn was able to hide his true loyalties to the Chiss from the Empire as a whole for so long. Palpatine eventually figures it out: that Thrawn will always put the Chiss Ascendancy first to protect his people. So if Ezra hadn't yeeted them to another galaxy then Palpatine would have had Thrawn executed. One thing Thrawn is known for is being extremely loyal to his allies and those he considers friends. He's not the type to screw them over. And he will only do so if he knows the type of bad character a person is. (Niles Ferrier comes to mind) I mean, Thrawn could have left Eli Vanto to die; but he risked breaking cover to save his friend's life and sent Eli to the Ascendancy to help his people instead. Not the actions of someone cold-hearted. It is interesting that Thrawn is quelling one rebellion in the inner galaxy, but is the face of another in the Ascendancy. Also on your comments about the Republics, the books make it clear that the Chiss didn't trust the Old or New Republics because they saw them as rife with mismanagement, corruption, and ineffectiveness. And they weren't wrong.

the ahsoka show is pretty bad tbh. its not near kenobi, book of boba or sequels bad, but it is worse than mando season 3.... sadly thrawn is writen how morons think smart people are like.... he could fall down the stairs and shit himself and he would still turn around and say "all apart of my plans" then slowly walk away with his hands behind his back. thats kind of how they wrote him in ahsoka. the issue with having thrawn in your story is that writers cannot write a character more intelligent than they are, its the difference between the thrawn trilogy books (he original one) and ahsoka/rebels

Actually i feel the star wars makers should give some more time as ruling by the empire. They would have bought order to the galaxy. The rebellion is just aimed at personal gains at this point. Zahn has gone on record saying that Rebels proves that Filoni knows how to capture Thrawn on screen. If Zahn loves the portrayal, that's all that matters. But as a book fan, I think they've done a great job.

No, Thrawn is written how a leader in exile for 11 years with a drastic decrease in resources with limited capabilities against THREE force users. What do you expect him to do? Nag to them to death when he’s trying to escape… he has no fleet, no council, no emperor or empire to fund his plans. He has himself, four witches and troopers willing to lay out their life- but remember… against three lightsaber-wielding Jedi… one being the apprentice of The Chosen One. Another, being Ezra who summoned whales from no one knows where, and Sabine a force-sensitive Mandalorian who witnessed her entire family die. He is not gonna overuse the few resources he has left to kill hostiles he intends on leaving behind, he’s gonna send few to distract and buy time, and that is only those who volunteer. Negl tho, that “All part of my plan” joke was funny
