Yesterday marked the final East Midlands Railway Class 43 'Angel Sets' after 39 years of service in the East Midlands Region. This record breaking locomotive (specifically 43102) was the fastest renowned diesel powered unit in the world, at a topped out speed of 148mph, a record it continues to hold today. Scheduled for 20:02 last night, the absolute final East Mids HST, consisting of 43102 + 43274, as well as 6 Mk3 passenger carriages, set off from London St Pancras for an arrival at Leeds at around 23:08, becoming the end of HST operations in and around London. 43102 (solely, the power car) will be preserved in the National Railway Museum in York for public display. Kudos to the 43!
A range of trains can be seen in this video, including various London Overground 378s, Class 66s, Thameslink 700s, EMR 222s, and of course the last EMR 43 (as well as the sound of some 1996 Stock Jubilee Lines :P). Enjoy!
