RB199 - needed to have the core of the triple spool engines at operating tem prior to engaging burner. This took around 15 - 30 😊seconds depending on ambient air temp.

Tornado can be nuke fitted - not possible fit the eurofigher with nukes - so they bought a couple of F-35. when they arrived, the tornado will be retired....ECR will be replaced too

i live somewhat near this base, right in the flightpath and these things fly right over me what feels like every 30 minutes. they're damn loud even at the altitudes they fly at. it gets a bit annoying over time.

I can understand the loudness can be annoying sometimes. For me personally I do like jet noise but of course I'm not totally objective 👍

Any tips for visiting Norvenich? as a casual spotter, do they still fly there with Tornado`s?

Yes the Tornado's will stay temporarily till 2026 at Norvenich as Buchel air base is still out of service, so you have still some time to see them at Norvenich.😊👍

yea also they fly mostly from 9am-11am and from 14pm-17pm also its not always tlying there its a gamble

Trained against them when i was in the swedish Navy on exercise with Royal Navy outside Plymouth. Somehow i was supposed to shoot them down with my M240 Machine gun, which ofcourse was just ridiculous.

Some bla bla trivia…..Tornado never took off without reheat (afterburner), even when light, hence the aircraft always had a lengthy engine run up and reheat test before brake release.

Always like these engine reheating by the Tornado, Mirage 2000 do this procedure also.
