The Double Seat Bf 109G-12 fly with a RR Merlin, but can also be equipped with Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine. The Bf 109G-14 has a original DB 605.

the 2 seater doesn't look like it has the Damiler DB 605 inverted V-12

+bobgm3 They had a DB built for it and Merlin prepared for quick change. The can fly it with either, but the DB can be temperamental and expensive to operate. The Merlin makes sense for more air time, especially if it will be used for passenger flights or pilot training.

+Fred Harvey There are several accurate restorations that are equal or better than an example manufactured in a WW2 factory. They are rebuilt to the same specifications and standards, less a few modern bits and maybe modern wiring, etc. Today even a time-capsule example would have to be disassembled to check for cracks and structural problems and then put back together in order to be safe and flight certified. And because of the chaos of factory bombing and rushed manufacturing, a time-capsule example may not have met full specs and would need some remanufacturing. They were only expected to last a few weeks or months in service.

Aha! So that's why the trainer looks oddly like a Spitfire - it actually has Spitfire engine fairings, propellor boss, exhaust stubs and radiator hump.
