Behind the Scenes timelapse: • Eclipse 2015 shoot - BTS
The Solar Eclipse on March 20th was fascinating to watch. I stayed up all night waiting for it and filmed the the changes from night to dawn, sunrise to eclipse and back to day again. There was Aurora Borealis, stars, momentary fog and loads of airplanes shooting across the sky to catch a glimpse of the eclipse.
This had to be planned well in advance which took many hours but it was nothing compared to the post processing of the tens of thousands of high-res images that were combined to make the video and transitions seamless. The shoot itself lasted 12 hours.
The solar eclipse itself was layered on top of the wide angle shot, so basically these are two videos. If the 4K turns out good, you should be able to see a sunspot.
The song used is licensed from Premiumbeats, is called "We'll Be OK" and the artist is "Sergei Stern". Due to the length of the video I had to re-mix it a bit.
My website is www.xz.is and I specialize in technically challenging photo- and videography.

I don't know if I'm the only one. But I shed tears. Tears of joy and I thank you for sharing this with us! It was amazing! This year. There is the 2017 total solar eclipse. I hope that weather and plans and everything cooperates because if it does. I will be watching my first TOTAL solar eclipse!!! 100%!

Fantastic time lapse of total eclipse. Echoing what at least one other poster mentions however, i'd love to see this identical video but perhaps in 1/4 speed. This way the totality of the eclipse would be better visualized. Thank you for your fantastic work and musical score to accompany it.

The best way, if you want to prove that the moon is what obscures the sun, is to photograph its path as it approaches the sun before the eclipse phenomenon occurs. Unfortunately, with all the possibilities, there is not a single photograph that shows the path of the moon in the sky until it reaches the sun.

@operationxz8584
@operationxz8584 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of the actual frame rate, it was as many frames as possible in the amount of time the shoot took. Without digging up the raw materials, I'm thinking 1 frame every 3 seconds. On top of that, the shoot was bracketed so it was at least 3 images for every single frame. This is shown in 24 fps.

@fromnorway643
@fromnorway643 2 ай бұрын
@@test-kz2iq It's more likely that the exposure settings on the camera were _not_ adjusted! If 97.7 % of the Sun was covered and we also account for the _limb darkening_ of the thin sliver still visible, the light level probably dropped by 99 %. The remaining 1 % isn't much less than the normal light level at Saturn and still brighter than typical indoor illumination at night. Human observers would perceive this as an eerie dimming, but it would be far from true darkness as our eyes would adapt to the decreasing light level.

Someone, please enlighten me! If the moon blocks the sun resulting in a solar eclipse, whether total or partial why is it that we do not see the moon streaking across the sky, then catching up and eventually, blocking the sun. And.... what's with the size, where the sun and the moon are the same size?
@fromnorway643
@fromnorway643 2 ай бұрын
The Moon's crescent is _extremely_ narrow during the last few hours before an eclipse and the first hours after so we would hardly be able to spot it even if it wasn't just next to the blindingly bright Sun. That crescent needs to be wider and farther away from the Sun in the sky before we can spot it, like it is one day before and after the eclipse.

The moon can't never be seen nor before neither after a solar eclipse. Why? Because everytime we actually see the Moon, we're doing it thanks to the Sun, which light get reflected on its surface. But when the Sun is straight behind the Moon, there's nothing putting light on it from our perspective, so it's basically a shadow. And the background of that shadow is... Darkness! The space itself. Also, the intensity of the sunlight generates a flash to our eyes. This flash also does his job hiding the moon, as it works as a screen which makes almost impossible for us to see anything. The Earth's atmosphere does the last job by spreading all of the sunlight across our 'Sky', which strengthens this screen effect. The final result? Nothing for us to see, at least with our bare eyes.
