Story time: I was going on this ride with my family for like the second time, and we were getting really close to the drop. Eventually we got to the lift hill before the big drop, and the announcement came on that the ride was being stopped. We sat there for a good ten minutes and the logs were piled up. After those ten minutes it started up and we finished the ride. When we got off my mom was curious and asked what happened. The ride operators told us the reason it stopped was because there was a mom and baby ducks in the water of the ride so they had to stop it. 😂

It’s not the ride that they claim is racist it’s the movie that it’s based off of. The song of the south is a racist movie that Disney doesn’t even claim anymore so why keep a whole ride based on it? I would rather see Disney come up with more original ideas there hasn't been a original ride in Disney World since Expedition Everest. Coming back to this after the ride POV for tiana's bayou adventure released. It's crazy how much they downgraded it. Another classic Disney ride ruined. I hate to say it too, I really like the princess and the frog, but even so it's super underwhelming. They should have just given Tiana her own ride and updated the Splash Mountain animatronics. You could have both added more capacity and fixed up a ride everyone loves. But no, Bre'r Rabbit is apparently too "controversial" for new audiences, completely stupid.

Actually, when Disney re-opens next month the ride will still be open with the regular theme, according to an article I read on D23. They're only in the planning stages right now for the re-theming. It's gonna be awhile before they actually start working on it. Me, I can't afford to go to Disney, so the one time I rode this ride as it was was also the last time 😂

Their belief is that all slaves were miserable and abused, because thats largely what current media (propaganda) claimed. The fact is most slaves in the south were not mistreated at all, it was just like different economic classes (caste system) which we see all over the world today, and thats what the film portrayed. The fact is the slaves in the south were living better lives than those in Africa, and the US literally went out of its way to create a new nation for them called Liberia, which itself is modeled after the US constitutional republic. In fact, the Irish "slaves" were treated far worse over all. But they won't tell you that... they just want this narrative of southern slaves being in literal hell, and the European man is the devil. Thats the propaganda they want to push.

Here's a little bit of advice: If you're on a full boat, you're definitely gonna get soaked. I learned this on my May 2017 trip to Disneyland. I remember riding all the way in front as well, which meant I got the most soaked, and what didn't help is not only was it cold outside, but I also kept going on it several times. Another piece of advice: Don't be surprised if someone stupid decides to stand up on the ride. I remember waiting (I think) 2 hours before I finally got to the ride. This was during my May 2018 trip to Disneyland.

my youngest daughter cried after hearing Splash Mountain is being re-themed. Say goodbye to all of Frontier land as we know it. Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn books are much more racially insensitive so I'd be surprised if the island and ferryboat make it through 2020. Half the rides in Disney will be gone in a few years.

nickrock23 I cried too. As a young child, I was enchanted immediately. My teacher’s aide in first grade had read me some Uncle Remus tales, and I absolutely adored them, would beg for more. It was so magical seeing these tales come to life before my eyes. Furthermore, I remembered segments of it on my Disney singalong VHS, thought to myself, “When they release that again on tape, I want to see it.” Little did I suspect that the film was heated and never would be available on home video, but thanks to a dear friend who owned a Laserdisc copy from Japan, I got to see it. I was thoroughly enchanted and cried at the end in which the moral of the story became clear: A child needs both parents. Although there were some elements in the film that could be interpreted as problematic by today’s standards, one must realize that the story is set in the Reconstruction AFTER the Civil War, and that the African Americans portrayed are freed crop holders still residing on plantation property. Plus the African American folks in the film like Uncle Remus ended up being the heroes, whereas the white people like Sally and Ginny’s sadistic brothers were the villains. Additionally, one must realize that Walt Disney was very ahead of his time hiring an actual African American for a lead role, and that sadly, James Basket was unable to attend the premiere in Atlanta due to segregation. He would later score an Oscar for his performance as Uncle Remus. When I returned to Disney World in my 20s, the ride was even more magical to me because I had seen the film, and I was excitedly telling my dad about it. Hence, it is with a very sad and heavy heart ... and tears in my eyes ... that I received the news today, and I give your daughter a hug from me. RIP Splash Mountain .... And if you wish to relive the magic of the Uncle Remus tales with your daughter, pick up a copy of Uncle Remus: The Complete Tales retold by master African American storyteller Jules Lester. Updating the language to modern English, updating dated gags in a zany way that African American storytellers would have done, and focusing on the stories rather than inserting elements considered controversial by today’s unfortunate standards (but hearing them just as the African Americans would have), Lester’s collection is guaranteed to produce tons of giggles and become a favorite bedtime treasury that your daughter can pass on to her own children. When we visited Disney World Florida when I was 7, I was too scared to ride this. My grandparents and I waited while my mum and aunt went and rode - it was the ride they were most excited about. I remember standing at the fence at the bottom of the big drop with my grandad, waiting to see them. It's nice to see this and feel a sense of familiarity, even though our family isn't the same anymore and the ride will be changing.

Funny story my mom forced me onto this ride when I was 7 and deathly afraid of roller coasters and drops of any kind. I have had horrible anxiety about it ever since even though I love Pirates of the Caribbean, Matterhorn, etc. These videos are the only way I can enjoy this one even now 😂. Thanks mom. I’m glad I got to ride it before it changes😔 I support the bml and I see where the problem is with the movie but it’s still hard to see such a fun ride be changed. I feel like more people rode it because it was different than Disney Princesses and it was not more kiddy kind of ride like most of there rides. People are making a massive mistake. They are removing one of the last animatronic extravaganzas in existence. Much like Pirates or Haunted Mansion, once its 120 animatronics are gone they will be replaced with projection and never return in such a grand fashion. It is exactly this expense that they have chosen to remove Splash Mountain, none of the fake reasons they have given to fool the public, it is purely to cut costs.
