I agree I have a gp100 6”I was going to buy a 357 magnum before we had our first child my wife said no more guns until she gets a baby. So I obliged her my daughter Olive Jean was born on October 16, at 357 pm. Her name is engraved on my revolver. I love the 686 as well but just couldn’t get past the interlocking safety. Seen some videos of them failing and the gun was no longer fireable. Wish they would get rid of the whole thing if you no gun safety it is just not needed. The Ruger was 608 out the door new in the box they really over build the guns it was my choice. They are both great revolvers you really can’t go wrong with either one.
@dickJohnsonpeter
@dickJohnsonpeter 2 жыл бұрын
So I'm not understanding his reasoning. Because the fact is that the Ruger GP100 is the best .357 ever made and the 686 is right up there with it. So since the GP100 os objectively and factually the best built .357 magnum ever made why wouldn't it be on every list of best?

FINALLY! A review that is global. I love the way a quality revolver feels & shoots. Totally different from semi auto & tactical issues aside just feels more intuitive & pleasurable to fire. If people are willing to pay the the premium for the French & German revolvers to own THE BEST IN THE WORLD ( statement of actual reality & fact) Colt & S&W should take note & go back to what made them famous in the first place. Quality and pride of craftsmanship. I am sure there would be plenty of people who would happily pay $1K more per gun for the quality of their old school revolvers. The irony is that with modern materials and machining tolerances + craftsman quality the US manufacturers could produce better than what they did but do not

I regularly fire my 6" Ruger Security-Six at ~200yds and I can't believe you didn't include it, *just for me!* - I rarely hit anything but I like saying I shoot it that far... golf ball at 140yds a few months ago, f'got my ammo box, only had 3 speed loaders full. Took til the last round of about the last 10rds to hit the golf ball. ...means I hit it on the 18th 'hole'.

The MR 73 & the Korth combat are the finest 357 revolvers ever produced: you can put 50,000 rounds of 357 through either revolver, and still get 1 inch groups at 100 yds. Not the slightest cone damage, nor barrel damage to either of these guns. These revolvers were designed as weapons of war, which is why there’re so tough, so durable, and so accurate. When it comes to build quality, reliability, and accuracy, these two revolvers have no equal, they really don’t. I love the early Pythons, the 686 plus, the model 19, 29, GP 100 too, beautiful guns... but if I had to go to war with any of the guns mentioned here, it has to be the MR 73, or the Korth, as both are proven to take countless rounds of 357 with no discernible affect. With all due respect, you put 50,000 full magnum loads through any other revolver, and they’d be a piece of junk at the finish, most of the gun would need replacing. With the MR 73, and the Korth, you’d never know, which is why they’re the finest of all😎 I still can’t decide between the two🤭❤️❤️❤️

Colt is back to making revolvers. They reintroduced the King Cobra in 2019, and it is a nice, smooth action. In 2" or 3" barrel, it makes for a good carry gun, and 4" target is nice. Just in 2020 they reintroduce the Python. They are a decent gun (after the initial production glitch), but are not a nice or smooth as the old Pythons. Can't address the accuracy of the new Python, but the old ones were one of the most accurate revolvers.

I got triggered a little, as a Ruger/Dan Wesson fan, but I mean, its your opinion man, and that's a really good list. And let's be honest, Rugers are great guns, like a Corolla is a great car, they will probably outlive you, but that doesn't mean they should be put on a pedestal. Dan Wessons are well made, and fantastic shooters, but you gotta tighten the lug to ensure cylinder gap every so often, and it seems people threw away their extra barrels and shrouds because I can't find any of them with the gun, or without it. Also, I'm gonna look up that Korth, that thing looks awesome. And I love that cylinder release, that's a fantastic idea.

I have the Dan Wesson 744. It is a wonderful and practical gun. The Dan Wesson revolver line was/is great. But, they don't touch the old 5 screw S&Ws in quality and beauty. The others listed are on a different level all together. The list was as expected. Number 5 could be argued among various prewar (WWII) Colt and S&W revolvers, such as the Triple-lock and 38/44 Target Outdoorsman. Still, a call has to be made at some point.

I learned to shoot a handgun when I was about 11. I learned using my Uncle's Colt 1911. I loved that thing! I think I was 12 when he, my dad and I went to an outdoor range. This time It was a Colt Python that I fired. After the second round, my forehead hurt and I saw blue and I couldn't hear my dad and my uncle talking. This would have been around 1975. We didn't use eye/ear protection back then. Or seatbelts when in the car. I digress. Oh, and Mom and Dad would smoke in the car while the three of us kids would slide around as the car would go around corners. Once in a while, my dad would drink a beer while driving and smoking, with the five of us in the car, with nobody using seat belts. Sorry for the tangent; things were just different back then, is my point. After firing two rounds from that Python I placed it on the bench and walked away. I didn't even touch a .357 until 30 years later when I fired one over the holidays in 2015. Now I want a Python!

Thanks for putting out a well thought out list. It seems many opining don't realize the firearms for like the Manurhin where designed from the ground up to digest a steady diet of full bore .357. You shouldn't do that with a K frame Smith! To the fanboys, if your going to disagree that fine, please list your argument in an intelligent manner and you may convince some of your point of view. For example " The Manurhin is out of the reach of most of us financially, a more affordable choice should be.... " If all you can do is talk like a Scandinavian goat breeder then please go back to breeding goats and let the rest of us discuss firearms. Thanks

It is the compromise I guess when you don't have as much money. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting thousands of hot loads through a $400 revolver but I would feel nervous putting any round through a $4000 one. The latter would be more of an investment then a luxury item for me. Like a man with a Porsche it spends most of its days in the garage while he goes to town everyday with his beat-up 20th century pickup truck.

The Manurhin was used by the French police as their service firearm and they put thousands of rounds through them without issues ... I would have no problem using it as it is one of the strongest revolvers.Btw you can less than pristine examples for $600-$900 when you can find them.

The newest model 66 will digest all the full house 357 you want and it's a k frame, I also have a 1966 model 19 that was my uncles when he was a cop, and that thing is still fine, and it's had a truck load of warm to hot 357 run through it with no issues.

Great list , I love your number 1 ( I wanted one since the 1980s) & 4 picks. Personally my sidearm of choice was a Smith & Wesson Model 28 Highway Patrolman with some real nice non standard features that were either added by the NY State Police or by Smith & Wesson. It was orginally issued by New York State Police and is is marked 'NYSP' and I purchased it in 1985 as my sidearm for my firearms training at the police academy 1985.

The Ruger *Security-Six* and *S&W 686* both deserve some recognition in this area. The Ruger is the first .357 to be made with a modular design. Despite its price and the size of its forcing cone, the Security-Six also is made to digest tens of thousands of rounds without frame distortion or forcing cone erosion. And the S&W 686 is the finest production .357 ever made, and it was designed to eat the Colt Python's breakfast day in and day out. Hell, when was the last time _you_ ever saw a Korth revolver on a dealer's shelf? Eh?

"Some worry that they'll break or go out of timing, if you look at them funny." (You just earned a subscriber.) No! The Colt Python doesn't even need a reason to break or go out of timing. I know from first hand experience. (I own two.) I look at them funny, just to taunt them, then I feed them nothing but .38 special. I agree with your list, for the most part. I can't argue against it, although I differ from some of your choices. Your reasons are sound and quantifiable. The one thing, that I think that most people, including yourself, would agree to: We will not see the likes of those levels of hand-craftsmanship again in today's modern handguns / revolvers, even if you get a performance custom pistol from Colt, Smith & Wesson, Les Baer, Wilson Combat, etc. Those days are long gone.

Great content! Loved the comparison. Real world. Saw in the beginning two of my fav 9mm’s, a Browning Hi-Power, and an HK P7M8 with Nils grips! I have both, and I love the wood grips on my HK. Both are VERY accurate, at 17 yards I can pick a 1” spot on any target and hit it nearly every time with either gun. Loads of fun. Thanks for making these vids!
