I used to go there daily when I lived across the street in the late 60's. A lot of great memories such as old time body builders and their kids doing human pyramids and stuff on Sun afternoon.

I had a trip to LA planned for this year but the pandemic hit and I've been super bummed I wasn't able to go. But this is a great substitute. If I can't go in person, I can live vicariously though the camera guy.

i live in Beverly Hills. This is my go to place to cool off in the summer. parking nearby is ok (I use Santa Monica Beach Parking) price is good. however, the last time I was on the pier was a year ago. and this despite the fact that I often go to Santa Monica Beach.

Went recently and had a brief scary moment there. My wife and I were sitting at a bench just enjoying the beachside view, and a panhandler walks up behind our bench and starts mumbling loudly and asking for money. I had to turn around real fast because we didn't know who was behind us. Overall, it was a decent place and "as advertised" and might take up an hour or two at the most, depending on how many rides you go on (if any). Aside from that, I recommend going about five miles up the coast to Getty Villa. It's a museum of a rich guy's house who remodeled the place in the style of ancient Rome. There are a lot of statues/busts of ancient Rome and a nice courtyard and garden to walk through.

santa monica was disappointing for me. maybe because I grew up in another beach city. LOL the view was nice, but the acutal pier seems to lack. I was hoping for more restaurants and souvenir shops, vendors, but it sjust a stroll with a nice view. I didn't enjoy it as much.
