Yes up in the mountains it was a bit cooler by maybe 5 degrees but I'll take it. There was an amazing breeze the whole time and that makes a huge difference too to move around the air. Natures fan! LOL. Out of all my times and all my years out there on trail and camping I have only seen a bear 1 time and it was baby up a tree in SNP. I have heard other hikers pass me and say I saw 2 bears ahead etc , but I have never seen them. I've seen bear poop from time to time. I've seen a few cross the road in front of me in a car. But I will say I am very careful about hanging my food bag, toiletries, medication, etc anything with scent away from my tent. Honestly, I worry more about poisonous snakes than bears. You can do it, girl. If I can you can! Have a couple of cocktails to help you sleep HAHA! No really! LMAO

Good afternoon RVA, firstly wow loved that bridge on the intro! 🥰 another cracking camp and a linear looking picth, great job staying cool! We love the back ground noise, like the forest was talking with you. The river looked lushness and so refreshing, great that it was so quite too! Fantastic 👍🥰🌊 The yurts looked fancy and the cabins too, wow! Great facilities. Have a great week, Ceri and Kat 👍🥰🏕🌊☕❤

Hey there Jody! I love the little town of Buchanan, VA and always stop at that bridge when I am passing through town. I plan on camping on one of those platforms the next time I go back. They are so cool! It will be like camping in a treehouse. Thanks so much for stopping by and watching.

Your "sleep clothes" look like outdoor clothes, no problemo! Yes, a beautiful place. It is odd, no one else is there, unless, they too know of the toxic Roanoke River.
@RVAHikerGirl2 жыл бұрын
I have lots of different sleep clothes. They all tend to be something I can wear out if needed if my main clothes get wet. They are also usually wicking in the summer time. It was the middle of the week in the hottest part of the year and most campgrounds are not as busy as they are on the weekend. A lot of people don't camp outside when its this hot. Spring and Fall camping are much more popular than summertime camping. ~RVA~

That was a superb campsite, great facilities...bit far for me to travel for an overnight :) Excuse the ignorance of this 'Limey' but what is the significance if any of the star?
@RVAHikerGirl3 жыл бұрын
You can stay for as long as you like, LOL. It’s a just a man made Star that lights up at night to welcome everyone to the town of Roanoke. It’s on top of a mountain so you can see it for miles and miles.

Wow! What an awesome gem of a campground! I might need to check that out! I’m in Acadia Ntl Park today (sadly not camping) I did the Cadillac Mountain sunrise and then hiked the Beehive trail…and I highly recommend it…it’s a tough one tho, ladders and rungs. Oh, how much did you pay that bee towards the end of the video!? You know the one I am talking about!
@RVAHikerGirl3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow Your trip sounds incredible Ron C! Hopefully you are vlogging some of it. You don’t always know what you capture with so much footage until editing. This was definitely one of those times! I couldn’t believe the timing of that little bee.🐝 Those bees were is all the flower shots I think! I couldn’t capture that one again with that timing even if I tried!HaHa!

You did not say if those cabins are free to use or is there a Fee?
@RVAHikerGirl2 жыл бұрын
No cabin that I know of is free to use these days. You might find a free dispersed tent site some where in the woods, but any sort of cabin, or yurt you would have to pay a fee and reserve with the private companies that own them. In this case you reserved the cabins in this video through Don's Campground. Hope that helps. ~RVA~

Hi, I. Just looking out the window here and its grey, rainy, windy, cloudy. What's better, too hot or too cold? 😄😄. Sub'd 👍
@RVAHikerGirl3 жыл бұрын
I rather hike cold than hot. I can put on more layers to keep warm, but you can't take enough off to be cool in this crazy heat. I have slept with temps so cold I though I was going to have to pack up in the middle of the night and hike back to my car or freeze to death. But I didn't have the proper cold weather gear back then like I do now. Watch my Mt Pleasant video under George Washington National Forest hikes on my channel. Thanks so much for subbing. Very kind of you! ~RVA~

Thank you for subbing appreciate that. Confused by little risk you mentioned. I am camping in bear and poisonous snake country. Crazy summer thunderstorms with high winds, hail, and pounding rain pop up almost daily. Trees can come down on top of you and there is no shelter besides your thin tent material. I would kindly have to disagree a bit about little risk. I think little risk is staying at home and sitting on the couch, lol. Anyway, that's just my opinion, I respect yours. All opinions are welcome and respected on my channel.

Hey! Lovely spot for a camp, beautiful by the river. Do you have to have a permit to camp in parks in the US? Is wild camping technically legal? The rules in England are really strict unfortunately. xx
@RVAHikerGirl3 жыл бұрын
That's a tough question to answer because the US is so big and there are different rules among the 50 states. This is a county park, so no permit needed but you do pay a small fee. Wild camping is not illegal you just have to know where to go to do it. You can wild camp or disperse camp in the National Forests and National Parks. The National Parks require backcountry permits but the National Forests are more lenient. If you hike on a trail like the Appalachian Trail or the Pacific Coast trail, etc you can camp pretty much anywhere as long as its not private land or a posted no camping area. We have state parks and nature preserves you can camp in also but your going to see more people. Some of the state parks have primitive camping like in some of my more recent videos but thats very different from your wild camping. Long response BUT ha ha I hope that answered your question. Thanks so much for watching Rachel.
@ramblingracheltrailtales3 жыл бұрын
@@RVAHikerGirl Thanks for answering, I was just curious and thank you for the response. There’s so much land in England that’s privately owned making wild camping quite difficult (illegal) with a few expectations here and there. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Have a great week xx 😀
@RVAHikerGirl3 жыл бұрын
@@ramblingracheltrailtales Sure thing! From all the videos I watch from UK backpackers it always looked like you could wild camp just about anywhere. And it always appears no one else is ever around which I always am in awe at. Views from every direction since most of those mountains don't have trees. I love the Peak District and Snowdonia from all the UKers I watch. It looks just stunning.

The name of the campground is in the thumbnail, in the video title, and mentioned in the 1st minute of the video. I try to always give the info of right up front for everyone to have - Explore Park

@@RVAHikerGirl 4k waterfront camping on the Roanoke river? It sounds a little long to be the name. So that’s why I asked.
@michelleosborne89512 жыл бұрын
@@RVAHikerGirl you also have explore park Virginia. Is that the name? I have to say they sounded more like descriptions of the video so I wasn’t sure. After watching a couple times we decided .. we would look for that landmark of a star to find it on google. I never want to be annoying and ask if it’s been in the video. I did truly watch it twice. But I just wasn’t sure. They didn’t seem like names. Now you spent time responding. But still never clarified the name. I’m sorry to be such a bother.

@@RVAHikerGirl ok ok on closer inspection. I see it’s written really small on that camp number pole. “Explore Park”. You’ve got to admit it’s a weird name. It sounds like a verb.

@@RVAHikerGirl unbelievably I read ever detail and now see a discount code for Hip camp. So it could be Hip camp too. An entrance shot of the park sign usually clears up any confusion.
