smug Vagita good point..but Sony took away the back compat feature from that console so it's out the running since there is so limited numbers around..not to mention the x looks forward very well...it's future proof for at least 5 years ...even when the next-generation comes out the x will be supported. .so the x is great going forward and looking back...the ps3 doesn't compare. .

andrewsqual the difference is ps3 is dead. .dead as a door nail.....the xbone x is alive and very future proof......in a way the ps3 wasnt The next gen of consoles will likely be 4k 60 as standard. .for games..the x will be able to compete in that world even if the games are slightly gimped on it...so ye..4 generations of games makes it the most complete console ever...it may not be a complete roster of games..but it's pretty good

LOL No, that was the Wii as it could run ALL Gamecube games. Also the Wii U can run ALL Wii games (annoyingly hardware wise it could support Gamecube too if only it had the controller ports). As all BC on Xbox One are downloads, its never going to run as many Original Xbox games as Xbox 360 did, and that only ran a small selection. Same with Xbox 360 games, the Xbox One can only emulate ones where they can re-licensed them for distribution. Considering how many titles used licensed music or no longer have publishing rights by anyone, its never going to be more than a minority. Thus the games I want (Burnout 2, 3, Revenge) will probably never be available as it would cost EA money to re-license the music, plus its unclear if they even have distribution rights for the older games. Now if the games could run straight from the DVDs then you don't have to re-license them. But sadly it seems they considered that too complicated.

Fallout 3, Mirrors Edge and Oblivon always could run at 60 on PC. Why wouldn't One X run them like that? It's literally the same thing with The Witcher 3 being able to run up to 60fps on unpatched X1X, so no "bottleneck on physic" bollocks are valid. CPU power checks out.

I think what people forget is that these old games where often locked to 30FPS deep throughout the engine, so to say 'all old games should be upgraded to 60fps no excuse' is easier said than done, it can require a lot of work depending on the game. Microsoft had a real task going back to halo 3 and changing its frame rate to 60 with MCC, one does not simply patch 60fps. Keep up the great stuff Microsoft.

Fallout 3 looks amazing, never thought it would look or play like this on a console unless Bethesda went back for a remaster. This is one of the most underrated features of this mid-gen, new hardware actually improving the software we already have. Ninja Gaiden rendered at 4K. Man this is cool.

I was hoping like each week or several particularly first party exclusives that were originally released for the 360 would get these X enhancements to really showcase the power of the console. Word is it might be added into the MCC, which just recently got an enhanced patch that added 4K and HDR. That means if it's added, Reach will be in 4K 60fps... imagine how good that would look.

I play on pc and I m happy that Xbox is supporting backward compatibility. I mean switch is great, might buy that just for mario and Zelda. I m not really into ps4 because their exclusives like uncharted and the last of us (they are EXCELLENT GAMES)are so cinematic and have less to generic gameplay that seeing someone else play is no different than playing it yourself. Anyway I m more interested in playing old classics than new games.

I own xbox 360 and loved it from the start and still playing it. Now i know that the Xbox one has the support playing the older games I might get one myself eventually. If something happens to my xbox 360 hardware then I have one that is still working. From that point I do need to get it :-)

Alternatively you could also play the PS3 version of some of these games on PS NOW for around £10 per month - you get maximum 720p with artifacts , some exclusive performance issues/tearing, 2.1 stereo sound, no multiplayer and increased latency which all adds up to an experience that's tailor made 'for the players'. :trollface:

Backward compatibility is so awesome PHILOSOPHY! I can play all game prequels and sequels on new console like on PC master race, and moreover with natural progression resolotion and graphical updates! I am so glad that Microsoft undarstand real gamers... and all this is FREE for XBOX! (unlike Playstation very expensive and very small choice of "REMASTERS")

Incredible work from the BC team at Xbox. They really have pushed the boat out by offering free 4k updates to 360 titles with 16xAF, full v-sync, increased LOD and lightning fast load times. Can't wait to see what titles come next - Forza Horizon, Bayonetta, Shadows of the Damned and VF 5:FS would be glorious!

Yeah 3D on oled's is great. I think everyone got turned off by the $100 per pair active 3d type glasses. I can't even upgrade my TV because LG doesn't do 3d anymore and I don't want to lose it.

E Bones My impression is that UHD Graphics are perfect for 3D modes. You have a really good feel of depth on the whole screen. It's alot of fun to walk around the enemies or level objects and get this 3D impression. You really have the feeling it's infront of you. And if a Corpser comes to attack you haha really nice xD From close to far everything is sharp and clear... really nice feature 😃 Better Game experience from my perspective... looking forward to play the story dlc, never played it.

Not sure if you’ll see this Digital Foundry, but I played Dark Souls 1 the other day on the X, and the frame rate in areas like Blighttown and New Londo Ruins is vastly improved over the already smoother experience on the Xbox One. Also, I swear I could see more detail on things. Perhaps you could do an analysis on Dark Souls?

I really liked that resolution comparison of gears of war, where you showed the original resolution in the top 1/3 corner of the screen. It really goes to show just how acceptable the game still looks when not zoomed in while simultaneously showing how much more definition you get with the X enhancements.

Mirror's Edge isn't an "Unreal Engine 3" game, its an early build of Frostbite. It was originally a test run of the engine and they didn't expect it to do very well, (it didn't, until it became a cult classic though).

This is my main issue with the Xbox X, while backwards compatabilty blows away the PS4s, majority of those old games are locked at 30fps still (though run better than the X360 or Xb1), or dips well below 60fps in unlocked games.. This is just one of the many reasons why i like PC, becausr these games will still be playable at 60fps+, and wont be held back from older tech like the XBX is with the 360/XB1. Some Microsoft excusives get a bigger boost, but 3rd parties not so much. Games like GTAIV, Assassins Creed games, Witcher games, and a bunch of other older titles that were locked at 30fps on the older systems will stick be locked at 30fps on the Xbox X. However, many will be happy to just have the ability to play these games on one system, unlike the PS4.

King Me You are missing the point here, we are being gimped out of a feature that is literally just a tick of a box in the software/OS. Ps4 has the exact same discdrive as Ps3 had. Ps3 could play CD's so why not ps4? There is literally no reason for them to leave that feature out.

Leafleap But they themselves said when it first came out that it was a game console first. It was their business decision, and it hardly makes any difference whether it's in the console or not. It's not a selling point for the majority and thats what they look at.

Adding to this, i have my xbox one x set to 720p, then running through the Mclassic for backward compatibilty as my TV is only 1080p anyway. Are the frame rates even better if run at 720p instead? the Mclassic then scales to 1080p

You actually can't go back and play all your games on steam. Many old games have compatibility issues with new hardware and new Windows.

I'm very curious about games like gears of war 3 is how does side by side 3d works with the One X versions. If 4K tvs with 3D support do offer side by side in 4k, I'm very curious to see how they look with the resolution boost in 3D.

Backward compatibility has come a long way since launch - I remember when Gears 3 was running at subpar framerates, and now it's locked at 30fps. I used to check whether a game would run better on 360 or X1 before playing it, but now I'm always playing on X1 whenever compatible.

Only GPU wise tho, the CPU is only a bit more than 10% stronger (the CPU does have some additional improvements besides the amount of Hz tho, so it's probably more, but still not 6 times)
