I've always felt that one thing that was missing in Killzone 2 & 3 was that the ISA soldiers aren't wearing masks. The natives have to wear masks when outside because the environment is so toxic so it obly makes sense that the invaders do as well. They could have played with that, having the characters breathe a sigh if relief when they enter interiors because they can finally take the mask off. Perhaps even put an overlay on the screen showing you're wearing a mask so even the player feels the eacape from the oppressive atmosphere of Helgha.
@Oppen19458 ай бұрын
I always thought they wore masks because prolonged exposure to the Helghan atmosphere degraded their lungs and it became a problem for everyone except the 1% (who are seen not wearing masks). Maybe the atmosphere was way more toxic in the first few decades and decreased lung performance was a common birth defect unique to Helghast like their pale skin.
@TeutonGuy8 ай бұрын
The mask was meant to dehumanize the helghast.
@TeutonGuy8 ай бұрын
@@Oppen1945that was it at first. The 1% that could fully withstand the atmosphere were the result of successful generations of modifications. Later in Helghan culture it was the sign of the working class, colonel Radic was one of the top brass that kept the mask by choice because he started at the bottom.
@thisaccountnameiscompletel89498 ай бұрын
Helgan had been properly terraformed by the time that the ISA invaded. Before then, the Helghast who had toiled to make their atmosphere breathable had weakened their lungs to the point of requiring masks. And even when they had finished their work, the masks remained as a symbolic thing, and to inspire fear.

I played the hell out of the Killzone series throughout my teen years and always thought it was really good. Now having played them as an adult I realise just how powerful they were, it is confusing to me is why Killzone wasn't more widely adapted into other media - its gritty dark dystopic look at the future is really compelling and has seen a recent resurgence in modern media (I mean just look at 40K). I hope that this series is brought back to life in the near future, there is a lot more to be taken from the KZ series.

It wouldn't be received well by publishing execs and game journos. Killzone, while clearly portraying the Helghast as antagonists, gives clear lore explaining why they became a militaristic, totalitarian, and vengeful people. Given the blatant inspiration they take from The German Socialist Workers Party, it would be a golden opportunity to label the creators as Nazi Sympathizers.

Excellent video as always. Your editing is world-class and I always enjoy the topics you decide to discuss. Killzone has always intrigued me with its potential and its world. It felt so grounded and real, but I think ultimately it was let down by a few key decisions and writing choices. I knew one person who had a PSP when I was a kid, and no one had a Vita, so that part of the whole tale was just dead to me outside of wiki pages and KZbin. Making the first game a character select title created narrative hurdles for the sequels that I think they fell short on overcoming, at least for 2. It always felt to me that the ISA weren't tactically outmatched, they were just hapless rubes too dumb to actually survive. The Helghast are still an incredible enemy, but seeing them dunk on a six-foot hoop doesn't convey their power. I heartily agree, though, that the franchise has brought forth some of the most visually impressive games I've ever seen with incredible gunplay and a cover mechanic more games need to use. In a world now dominated by uninspired CoD releases and their failed attempts at envisioning a science fiction future, I do hope we see a return to Killzone at some point very soon

KZ1 was janky, but had a lot of potential KZ2 was an exceptionally good game, albeit with some technical issues such as random loading times interrupting gameplay. KZ3 was as fun as KZ2, ran better, but the campaign had a significantly dumber story. However, exploring different biomes on Helgan was very cool. KZ Shadowfall had a boring campaign with no coop, a garbage story, and a worse art style. Also, PS4 introduced paying to play on your own internet, so I never played the multiplayer. Given the current state of Sony and Guerilla Games, I have no faith in either party to make a good contribution to this franchise.

Being 20 y/o now, regret not getting into the Killzone Franchise how I should have. I didn't know and didn't understand the story; both the games' and the developers behind it. It didn't really click for me at the time. Being a kid and a picky gamer, I was looking towards the other default picks like CoD and Battlefield. Watching this video, it made me realize how a developer that stuck with it's vision and dreams can grow, reflected by the games they develop and in turn, nurture. From the Depths of the Hells to the Soaring Elysium Sky, Guerilla Games has etched a good chunk of themselves into Video Gaming History. And I regret not being a part of it since the beginning. Maybe someday they'll decide to sort of Remaster the franchise, update it for the current generation. But for now, it's a piece of Video Gaming Legacy that, even though I'll sadly can't revisit, it's a game that makes you forget others existed.

I was really expecting a title like "My "Halo Killer" - Killzone" or "The Game That Killed Halo (For Me) - Killzone", that would've made the purpose of the video more clear from the start The title was really off-putting for me because I was watching the whole time thinking that "am I being gaslit? Where's the part where it allegedly kills Halo?" Is this misinformation or revisionist history? Is the title just objectively wrong? It was just confusing since we can ostensibly see in history that it did not kill Halo and the Killzone franchise has been over for a decade. And then I see that "it did not kill Halo, but for me it did" part was only in for like 2 sentences for the script and that clarified the discrepancy with the title but was nonetheless very odd. A really excellent video, otherwise.

If you weren't around for it; back when Killzone was coming out, journos were calling it "The Halo Killer", and it got a lot of hype for it. Killzone aesthetically is amazing (the grit, the guns) HOWEVER the small enemy variety, the linear levels, lack of movement options, lack of squad intelligence / usefulness / lack of enemy coordination / lack of pathos / lack of color / lack of intensity / and lack of performance (running at a chunky ~20 frames a second); always meant that it was doomed to fail when competing against the heavy hitters of the genre (who tend to either prioritize modularity like Halo, creativity / variety like Half-life, or a focus on maps like most boomer shooters). And at first I thought it was bizarre the amount of praise I heard for the series but then I learned something most foul, the PS3 remake has even worse performance then the original releases. Then I played Horizon 1 and realized no it's not just the performance something about the engine or design just makes the game clunky, you don't have a lot of momentum, you can't move in ways that aren't explicitly scripted, it honestly reminds me a lot of Medal of Honor but even that franchise had the good sense to just become CoD at a certain point.

Killzone 2 is my favourite fps game ever made. The multiplayer especially is the best I have ever played. We will probably never get a game that good again. I feel that making the guns handle better and be more accurate under full auto fire in the sequel was a mistake. It took real skill to use the guns in killzone 2. As soon as you hit multiplayer, you soon realised that simply holding down the trigger and pointing was never going to work. It taught me trigger discipline and how to stay cool under pressure. Let the other guy panic and waste his bullets. Short controlled bursts would win the day almost every time.

Also Jesus Christ, only 40k subs? You are punching way above your weight in production, my friend.

well as of yesterday, killzone has been acknowledged for the first time in ten years by Sony. Perhaps guerrilla will give their own visari speech about 10 years ago, the time we granted. Maybe.

KZ2 was my 1st real 1st person shooter. I played golden eye but didnt own it. Playing the game on a 720 big back TV also got rid of input lag

If you got access to an airsoft field, why use _less-than-spectacular_ CGI for the enemy troops rather than other airsofters? Also suppressors typically mask sound and muzzle flash.
