4L60E Solenoid Resistance Testing (On-Car)

How to test the resistance of the 4L60E transmission solenoids without dropping the pan, and while the transmission is still connected to the vehicle. You'll need a separate pigtail connector and a digital multimeter. The test does not fully conclude that the solenoid is good, it can still leak. These tests are great for solving those solenoid circuitry data trouble codes. Solenoids tested in this video: 1-2 Shift Solenoid, 2-3 shift solenoid, 3-2 shift solenoid, torque converter clutch solenoid, TCC PWM Solenoid, electronic pressure control solenoid, and transmission fluid temperature sensor.

Note: You can also activate the appropriate solenoids by feeding them near 12v [[such as by using a power probe]] on one wire and ground on the other. They should click! Very useful on-car troubleshooting without dropping the pan.

do you test it shifted in neutral or in park

For sure thank you so much i followed your steps and all seems good im starting to think its the pcm since the resistance seems to be within spec although my 3-2 is 22.6 ohms but i checked in a shop manual its within spec

Truck is stuck in limp mode and i was trying to find if it were a solenoid problem, or harness or maybe even pcm. But i find it weird for all these codes to occur at once so maybe bad ground.

Well that was cool. After 40+ years of working on cars, I'm working on my first transmission in a 96 gmc. Just found out how to change the solenoids. This I a good method but with it still in the truck is that connector easy to get to.?

@@farmlandtiger1377 just like in the video, get a "dummy harness connector," disconnect the big transmission connector and plug in your "dummy harness connector." From there you can test the solenoid you want by using the 2 specific color coded wires.
