UPDATE: While this setup is still going strong, I have found much better, easier, safer, and more efficient ways to complete different parts of fear setups. So thank you to everyone who contributed with comments, advice and questions! Please subscribe to see new videos and how things are done now!
[ At the bottom is a list of each step so you can jump to what part you need to see! ]
Our new HOW-TO video is an excellent supplemental way to learn how to do your own re-gear, specifically to a Ford 10.5" rear (although the same process goes for most re-gears).
This is sped up quite a bit to fit every step in, so if you need to know more about any part in greater detail, comment or send a message!
There is a DETAILED write-up on this re-gear, including a list of PART NUMBERS, necessary TOOLS, and even prices of what's needed. This link will take you to that!

with pinion and bearing.. instead of press you could freeze the pinion and heat the bearing to fit. im getting ready to do mine and looking to find the cheapest ways to get parts done. great job btw!

Yes I’ve tried that before but always have issues with it not getting all the way seated before the bearing contracts again. It is an option though! Honestly looking back at this job (on my own rig) I have learned a lot of what NOT to do lol So I mean I found better ways to do gear jobs since I posted this video. I’ll have new videos coming out soon if the same axles but how I do it now. Anyway you can find a used press on FB or Craigslist for less than $100 and trust me, mine paid for itself time and time again

Could you put shims behind the inner pinion bearing to set the depth? I've seen people say that's how the Ford differentials are "supposed to be" setup. the claim is it's easier to knock out a race than remove/reinstall bearings. Awesome video. Glad you point out "don't do it this way"

I suppose you could although I’m not familiar with that practice. I haven’t looked into it very hard though. Also I feel removing the bearings is pretty quick and easy with the clamshell tool but that depends on your setup too Thanks for the input! I’m glad you enjoyed. It was really my true first gear set up so I learned a lot and now realize I did a lot of things sloppy or not the best ways, but that’s how you learn. It’s still holding up anyway so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wow that is such a simple idea but so helpful. Thank you! I will definitely do that next time 👊🏼

Did that have that style of yoke on it when you got the axle? I have a round plate on the one I’m doing but need to switch it to that kind.

micah haislett yep this came with the 1350 yoke which is convenient. I believe you could get an adapter from your driveshaft to the round yoke style

What was the ratio you re geared to? Did you have to use the 10.25 pinion bearings?
@4link4wd
@4link4wd 5 жыл бұрын
TheDangerzone The new ratio is 5.13, and yes you have to use 10.25 pinion bearings for this ratio because there are no 10.5 gears that “deep” that work. 10.25 bearings bump the pinion out a tad for correct alignment

Hey good question. I priced them out around $300 and figured I’d rather put that toward a locker instead. The limited slip worked pretty well all this time but I agree it would have been a good time to do it

The bearing inner race is absolutely not supposed to be opened up like that.

Not the way you torx a ring gear on.

Hey, thank you for the input. This was my first of only a few re-gears. How do you recommend to torque the ring gear bolts?

@Bwanar1 Hate how people become experts but provide no useful comments... how about telling us the way its suppose to be torqued???
@4link4wd

Jerry Llanos 😂 I agree. Like I said, I am all ears and open to learning. I’d rather do things properly. It just isn’t helpful to say what is wrong without a suggestion or explanation

@@4link4wdlol its all good we are all here learning, otherwise there would be no reason to watch these videos. I thought it was a great video. I will say though that ring gear probably should have been torqued in a star pattern. That might have been what he meant by torqued incorrectly.
