The perfect distro would be minimalist, provide complete multimedia codecs, a good terminal emulator like kitty, and provide access to Debian repositories. I do not need distro-selected notepads, multimedia players, games, file managers, etc. I like selecting the DE, office suite, file manager, and so on.

My homie asking the CPU usage and the kernel version but not reading the top part of that conky part. Interesting that there it says 2 GB of RAM being used. I guess it takes into account the cache/buffer part too. But, having multiple tools for the same job, but lacking util-linux and a full featured browser like firefox is ... questionable. I'm curious if there is a good reason behind that.

Beauty of Linux is its ability to do lot of stuff with minimal resources. For example I do all my books using Abiword. Its page layout protocol is pristine.

Certain hardware and this type of distro can be fiddly, not that long ago it took me 14 hours to work out why the network adapters weren't functioning on a Puppy after install, after hours of reading I finally realized some versions of Puppy don't pick the correct network drivers for a certain set of Intel stuff that can look the same except for minor differences but need the correct version of the driver to work ... and references to the info that I gleaned this from never specified what the problem was! if it did, it would have saved me hours! For years Linux Lite has been very good, I still use it as it's not only much lighter than a lot of other offerings, it's sooo configurable, Polished and easy to use!

The dock is famous along nosystemD linux (which btw is the real linux) and is called wbar. Tinycore and tinypaw linux use this dock too and is available on slitaz too. All these are NOsystemD distros. Want a unique distro ? Show us EltaninOS no wayland, no Xorg, no GNU no systemD and a special new desktop environment which is tiling and differs from what we are used to... Just try... but beware it does not using systemD but s6 so you have to learn before boot in. It is faster too...

Supposed to be minimal, but actually comes with a big bunch of second hand software (sorry). Why not instead coming with barely anything installed, and leave it to the user to install the software he prefers.

Just install arch/debian. Then you get to choose most of your packages. I don't really understand why there are so many of these forks. Only thing I can think of is calamares installer.

chimera linux has awfull creator it is nosystemD and maintains turnstile so this is a good thing there is also ELTANINos which even better (has no Xorg nor wayland and does not use Gnome but a new desktop environment) but DT shows mostly systemD (calling themeselves as linux)...@@Skelterbane69
