Now THIS is how you make Linux better. Swallow your pride and borrow the things Windows does right.

Nice tool. I will install it. But hey, 80 °C with this kind of load??? Man, your CPU screams for a repaste or adequate cooling!

One of the things windows does better than any distro is the task manager. Good thing this came out.

I like it, but I wish there was a version that looked good in KDE Plasma. Being a GTK/Adwaita app, it looks horrible in KDE.

I think btop is prettier but I can recommend this to people who like the mouse
@cittycat748120 сағат бұрын
This is exactly the "Linux Task Manager" I've been looking for! Apart from btop I haven't found a system monitor that's as pretty and as useful as the Windows Task Manager. It's one of the best things about Windows and now we finally have a Linux equivalent! It even gets many nice details right like grouping the processes when they're part of an open application

Ok, so when you reinstall Linux for whatever reason, how do you point the new install on drive 1 to the second drive 2 home directory so that you dont have to reinstall all your programs?

I predict the woke infiltrators in FOSS will meet their demise soon. Mozilla is about to crash hard, for example.

Yeah I am on windows and I absolutely love Task Manager. You know those times when you are doing something important and Windows decides that it needs to update your system by downloading a nice big fat file and my music starts glitching, yeah that is the time Task Manager comes in handy. @meemon758021 сағат бұрын
It just looks pretty. But functionality wise not so much. Still has a lot of bugs. I recommend using another app called "Resources". It isn't as pretty as Mission Center but it's very stable and bug free.
@GeoStreber21 сағат бұрын
I tried that one, but overall I just settled on btop.

A nice application for system monitoring, just installed it (as a snap) on my Ubuntu system. It is simple, but it has everything I need (graphics card, CPU, ethernet, disks ect). Took a lot of inspiration from the Windows 11 Task Manager.

Interface. It's also a clone of a clone since it copies windows task manager. At least the KDE app can be customizable even in its aspect.

Definitely my favorite task manager for Linux. I found this app a while ago and its incredibly helpful for monitoring my system's clock speeds and temps without using some of the less user friendly methods I had before like custom scripts.

@JohnAndrewMacDonald21 сағат бұрын
@@porterhouse937 sure they do. I am not referring to the older ksys but the modern Sytem Monitor bundled with the full KDE Plasma Desktop.
@porterhouse93720 сағат бұрын
@@JohnAndrewMacDonald yes, I’m looking at it right now and the only similarity is that they both serve as system monitors. KDE System Monitor has a side menu, mission center has a tabbed menu and resource usage graphs on the side. This application is simple and elegant, the KDE one is convoluted and messy. I really do not understand how you came to this conclusion.

To monitor my system I use conky. With it you can use the configuration options to monitor system resource usage or with Lua programing lanugage how those resources are represented. I use it to monitor cpu usage using a pie graphs showing cpu utilization on a per core/thread pair basis. I also monitor disk utilization on a per file system and network monitoring to see the throughput of the connection.

I've been using Windows since dos 6.22 and Windows for workgroups 3.11. I put Mint Cinnamon on a PC about 4 years ago. It had trouble finding a suitable driver for my N'VIDIA video card. The OS was using a generic driver but I went ahead and installed one of the options that were available. The result of installing a different driver prevented Mint from loading, leaving me with a flashing pre OS cursor, or something similar, and I couldn't get back to the "desktop". And because I had no idea about how to fix it, or boot into something like "safe mode" that ended my experience with Linux and so I just re-installed Windows. I'd like to try again, but is there a distro that uses windows boxes to make the majority of changes to, for example set a swap file, change cache settings, and everything else I want to tweak, without needing to learn all the Linux command prompt language? Or, is the answer to simply stay with what I know? I'm kind of at the age where it might be a case of better the devil you know than the devil you don't. I'm learning toward Kubuntu for the KDE desktop. I'm just a home user. I play first person shooter games like WWZ, DOOM, COD, etc., the odd bit of Photoshop to touch up photos; I do use MS Office 2010 for essay writing; I've got an Epson Inkjet and a Brother laser printer, I use a couple of web browsers which covers most of what I need to do online, and I listen to mp3s. Thanks.

Just switched over to Mint. I used to be a Windows cheerleader, however, Windows 11 filtered me. I'm happy for my switch and will tell my friends about it. A lot of people I know are upset with Windows 11 being forced upon them and will be looking for a better solution. Offer these people one with open arms. If Mint received just a little more compatibility, windows users will make the leap. I am just one of many to come.
