On 27 November 2012 FOUR PAWS transferred bear cub Nastia, who was rescued from ruthless animal traders, from the Lutsk zoo to her new home in Zhytomyr, 159 kilometres west of Kyiv, Ukraine. In May 2012 Nastia was sold by the Lutsk zoo to animal traders in Vinnytsia and was brutally snatched from her mother. FOUR PAWS officially confiscated her in July 2012 and brought her from Vinnytsia back to her mother at the Lutsk zoo. However, sadly due to their time apart, she rejected Nastia. In just 4 months FOUR PAWS constructed the Bear Rescue Centre Nadiya in Zhytomyr. Nastia was the first bear rescued in Ukraine to embark on a journey to a better life. The first moments were very emotional. For the first time in her life she could run around freely and jump in a pond for a bath. Our work to rescue bears in Ukraine continues.
