Fantastic video. I never knew how they did 4 axis. Thanks for going into detail.

Quick note about bundling toolpaths by tool versus orientation. On a machine like my Bother Speedio where tool changes are faster than indexing (even with their T200A rotary which is FAST) I bundle toolpaths by orientation. On machine with slower tool changes (my Okuma M560 for instance) I would perform all operations with one tool and then move to the next one, indexing as necessary. I also make sure my post processor is writing retracts to accomodate!

Excellent video thanks, I hadn't thought about using anything else apart from G54. I have a little bench top Sieg KX1 with 4th axis, I will definitely use the info from your video. I use Vectric Vcarve and mach3.

Thanks for this video! I was planning to buy a self centering vise for my home made 4th axis, and you may have sped up this process :D

Jay, great video! How would you part that off and finish it? You mentioned a band saw, then back into a standard vice and face the bottom?

Hi Nerdly, thx for the comprehensive video, what PP are you recommending to manage the 3+2 indexer job in F360 using Syil X7 + Syntech controller

What about the Dynamic Work (Fixture) Offset function on your machine? It really helps to save time both in software and on the CNC machine!

Thanks a lot for this video. Now the 4th axis is not the monster it was before! BTW: why to create boundary sketches to avoid collisions when already the software checks for the vise boundaries? Maybe the first approach is used only when you have not a precise 3D model of your wise?

Thanks! Lots of confusion gone! Concerning Fusion 360, so far it has been a good, lower cost option for my CAD needs. I liked Solidworks, but not the cost. The file structure made sharing a pain (back in 2010). Would you go a little deeper on the Fusion tradeoffs?

I looked at SW but the cost is ridiculous for a small business, it was something in the region of £7K!!! I paid £800 for 3 years worth of Fusion360 and it has CAD and CAM. Once you’ve bought SW you still need to buy a CAM to go with it.

Looks as if most of these paths were indexed rather than simultaneous, so don't require the extensions, which hobby users can't afford. Can you let us know which paths require the extensions as you cover them please? Many thanks for posting this stuff!

You'd only need the extensions for toolpaths in which the other axis are moving while the 4th axis is simultaneously moving. Deburring operations around the od of a round part would be a common application using the multi axis extension. I'm a Profesional CNC programmer. I do 4th and 5th axis and the current company I work for is fusion 360 based.

Is it the problem with Fusion 360 capabilities, that it does not simulate the rotation of the Rotation table?
@arjandijk1123
@arjandijk1123 Жыл бұрын
Fusion can do that, it just by default does rotate the tool because that makes the toolpath applicable on any type of machine

you are giving us great content on machining...........i have so much confustion about 4 axis trunnion parts that is not in center of rotary 4th axis. what to do then my part is off center from rotary axis?? what and how to take offsets of xy and Z..... we uses nx cam for programming..... programming is not issue ....setup is difficult..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/joa5gaBtgM6Jh80 .......we are planning this type of setup but we got confused to ho to take z ooset and xy offsets ......which codes for dynamic offsets in 4th axisgramming is not issue ....setup is difficult
