I was in the exact same spot. 4th axis sitting on my table for 2 years. Bought a Haas self centering vice and then made the adapter plate for it.

You are in about the same space as myself although your Haas is much nicer than my Syil. Like you at 52 I'm teaching myself all of this as well. It has become a very expensive obsession but I'm getting some good results. My worst mistake so far cost me my Haimer. I'm finding as I'm at it most days now I'm having fewer stuff ups and moving much faster. I have my own excavation business but if was to live my life over I might choose this instead although I may not have made as much money. All my friends were asking what will I do with it. My problem is not thinking of things to make, mine is keeping the list short enough to get through it all.

Great as always. I'm eagerly awaiting your next ELS video… hoping to see your finished implementation before trying it on the Taig 5C

You and me both! I have a couple of viewer projects I need to finish first. One that I can't show, unfortunately. The other that I can't show until November.

We were able to get a free Habegger Lathe (Schaublin 102) which we're going to convert until a CNC Lathe like John does. We are going for the ELS 4 pro version.

looks cool!, I'm looking forward to see it make chips. I wonder if you want to make a simple dead center for your part for heavy load cuts?

Great video. I didn’t realize you had milled two flats on the perimeter until you needed to rework the piece. That was a stroke of genius. I was wondering how you were going to get the part back in the vise the same way again. Ciao, Marco.

From my experience I should have started with a self-centering vise. I bought an Orange County Delta vise, and I gotta say I was super disappointed. From a design standpoint it uses a fixed jaw and it should half the tolerance compared to a self centering vise... In theory. But they took so many shortcuts that you spend more time fighting it than using it. In Fusion I needed to add variables to compensate for the eccentric nature of the vise. Long story short, I bought a Lang vise and I am way happier.

Was thinking about how you can cut a eccentric cam. Now I am thinking of a oval tip screwdriver and a oval slot in your injection molds for separation. More of a camming action than a sharp prying action.

I've sometimes thought of using an eccentric cam for ejection from my molds. It never occurred to me to make them with a 4th axis. Cool idea.

Hi bro, question How does that Chinese press work?
@JohnSL
@JohnSL 2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean how does the vise work? If so, it has a screw with left hand threads on one half and right hand threads on the other. That allows both jaws to open or close at the same time.
Will the 4th be with me?
