Another great video. I enjoy your mix of closeups and long shots.. The rolling hills of Georgia make train watching enjoyable.

Awesome, thank you. Yes, it's a nice area for railfanning. I just wished there would be more traffic.

terrific video, i like the way you incorporate close ups of the trucks as the trains roll along.nice catches!

+Mike Howey Thanks! Catching the wheels rolling by is the hardest part and it doesn't always work as desired. But on this day it did, fortunately.

Wow, an interesting group of trains, excellent locations and filming. Nice to see a variety of locomotives and on a Sunday! Thanks for posting. Luke

+Southern Railfanner Thanks, nice you like it. Sundays can be good or bad for railfanning here, but that one was particularly enjoyable.

I can remember Seaboard Air Line GP-40/GP-35/GP-30 sets on freights in 1960's and The Silver Comet ran this route, rode in 1967, a week before the merger, behind SAL 3036 and 3057 E-7/E-8 set, Was great !

Well, I can imagine that these were great times. I'm glad this line is still busy, though.

Where was this at. I live in Hiram Georgia. I sometimes will pull over and watch the Trains.
@mbmars013 жыл бұрын
This is east of Athens, GA. Unfortunately, CSX doesn't run many trains here anymore. You get far more to see on the Norfolk Southern line through Hiram!
@RailPreserver2K7 жыл бұрын
MB have you been able to catch the CSX haritage engines with the former railroad logos on the front side
@mbmars017 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember the Seaboard unit, but I might have seen others. The decals are so small that I don't immediately recognize them while filming. I don't find it a particularly innovative idea for commemorating the CSX heritage anyway. NS's heritage units are far more interesting.

Great video my friend! I found it a but interesting to see 8549 have a K5HL. And hey, Q193 actually has two locomotives for once! I've seen it only a couple times with two. 127's number boards look weird on Q667 to me for some reason. Anyways, I liked the shots and angles you got this video! I also liked seeing the CP locomotive on Q676. Also, I probably asked this before but what camcorder and tripod do yiu use fir your videos? The panning is realky smooth in your videos. Keep up the great work and have a great day!
@mbmars017 жыл бұрын
+Captain Justice I know, I was shocked to see two engines on 193 lol. In the last years I used a Panasonic camcorder HC-V550 most of the time, but footage for this video was recorded with a Panasonic HC-WXF991. I have a nice tripod, but rarely use it. Most of the recordings are actually handheld.
@CaptainJustice1667 жыл бұрын
Haha! Oh okay cool! And really!? You have a steady hand! I can't say the same for me. I have a very shaky hand, one of the main reasons I use tripods and the camcorder I use is shake-sensitive so if a video is handheld, it's going to be shaky the entire time unless I can control my hands lol!
@mbmars017 жыл бұрын
+Captain Justice I know it requires a lot of concentration and a sufficiently slow pulse haha. The optical image stabilizer of the camera helps a lot as well as the post-processing. I would use a tripod if I hadn't fun with all these extra effects like zooming, panning, tracking etc. I couldn't do it if I used a tripod.
@CaptainJustice1667 жыл бұрын
Okay I see what your saying. Yeah I can agree with you on that like your intro (Really like it btw), I love all the different shots and angles that you have in it and I know I couldn't do half of that with my current tripod. I guess for the fact I've incorporated photography with railfanning now, I focus more on that than video like I use too. Maybe I'll get back into videography and focus on that, I don't know when that'll be :/
@hsmith8017 жыл бұрын
It is good rail fannin but inn Georgia you can get dizzy the trains go up and down so much.

You are out there a bunch, so I have a question. Has Traffic picked up, in the last two years? Thanks!
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
No, it got actually down due to CSX's strategic changes and implementation of "precision railroading". There seems to be more activity in the local yards and more local trains (which I rarely happen to catch), but fewer through trains.

Do you know what they carry in those half round cars in the beginning of the video? I was just wondering.

+Ke Morris I guess you mean the coil cars. They carry several coils of sheet metal.

What happened at 31:00? Did he forget to blow for the crossing or is that a QZ?
@mbmars017 жыл бұрын
It's a quiet zone.
@RailPreserver2K7 жыл бұрын
Paul Cashman idk what idiot made that no horn law but I hate it, what are you supposed to do, stop, look, pray
@PaulCashman7 жыл бұрын
It depends on the surrounding area (residential? industrial?), traffic volume at the crossing, and other factors. I can think of several crossings between Lawrenceville and Athens that could be QZ'd, especially at night.

Cool, it's not easy to catch one anymore, particularly here in the east. The one I saw a few years ago here on the CSX Abbeville Sub had turned into a leaser.
@davidbarnett93127 жыл бұрын
I saw one a year or so ago on the BNSF line that runs through the farm outside of Belton, Texas. It appeared to be in pretty good shape with the SP logo. Sad considering I worked as a brakeman way back in the day for the SP out of Houston.

I didn't see it; it's a trackside sign for the crews close to the crossing.
