We go way back 2002 & take a look at the predecessor to the 3V-CHI Cleveland heads & how it went up against reworked 4V iron heads.
Check it out👉🏼🏁

Thank goodness the Cleveland took hold as it did in Australia. Thank you CHI! While it was very successful here in the USA in Pro Stock and NASCAR (especially in the 80's), the aftermarket never invested heavily in it due to the short production run of the 4V based engines. I was lucky enough to enjoy the performance of these engines in my youth, but they are mostly forgotten about by young enthusiasts of today. I still have a set of Boss 351 heads in my shop that I can't part with.

Great video! My first real muscle in a street driven car was a 66 Mustang 306 Clevor w/4v heads,12.5:1 compression, big solid cam, nitrous and a 4.11 rear axle. Still got the car and the engine but the motor will probably transplant into a 1965 Mustang fastback. That car ran very well! Those CHI heads, modern cam( I built the clevor in the 1980s) and a 5 speed manual should run even stronger!

Hey Janks! I recall when all this came to market in the USA, it was a Tidal Wave of forward motion for the Cleveland Ford(s)! Sales here might not of been what was hoped for since the Cleveland had such a short life - and not enough smart thinkers in the "sister M" category, but the heads (both street and race) filled a HUGE spot in the Cleveland community. There were other offerings, but none had the total development that these did nor the absolute performance. More BAD ASS Cleveland hardware!

Spot on MCM👌🏼, they were & still are a big hit….. we just had more Cleveland’s here in our production falcons/utes etc all the way to 82/3 & 302C versions also So made sense to us to come up with badass heads for em…… but sure did miss the challenges & diversity in combinations we had with our 2V & 4V stuff 🤷🏻‍♂️🏁

@@69JANKS No disagreements here!!! We've always turned to you for the better Cleveland parts (those that could swing the cost), blocks when NASCAR ran them, heads and a few other things. The 4.6 'Romeo motor' just the same, the premium aluminum blocks came from Australia too!

Thanks Niige👍🏼appreciate it, haha you could tell right, 4V all the way😂🏁…. To be honest I’m not a fan of SpeedMaster stuff (some stuff are passable), I was gonna grab those 4V irons myself they’re on clearance….. i think they’re ok for an oldschool build, but I’d go over them with your head guy to be honest, just to double check on things like Seats, guides, etc……procomp are known to be rough around the edges.. Just go over’em is all I’m saying 👌🏼🏁

What does the 3V stand for? When I first heard of them I couldn’t find any info on them, and thought they might be 3 Valve heads. That seemed really weird for an older V8, but they were used on Ford’s 4.6L V8.
@69JANKS
@69JANKS 10 ай бұрын
Haha No…No, ok so you need to be familiar with the OldSchool oem Cleveland heads first, they are normal 2valve pushrod V8 style to be clear. there is 2V (small port) heads & 4V (large port) heads…… so CHI had developed an all new performance head calling it 3V because it basically has the best of the two characteristics 👍🏼🏁 The original “V” was an oem reference to determine that small port heads were a 2bbl carb Cleveland & 4bbl carb equipped Clevelands but even that wasn’t right outta the factory anyhow…

3v on 4.6 Ford is actually 3 valves. Two intake valves and one exhaust valve sized closer to what we are used to on v8. 3v on Cleveland just indicate the port sizing is somewhere between a 2v Cleveland and 4v Cleveland. They fix all the 4v deficiencies and dead spots and have more flow and a modern combustion chamber.

Yes this is Robbie heart I would like to know about the two v closed chamber heads complete from y'all . Building a 351 Cleveland to go in a truck short bed F-150 any good suggestions thank you
@69JANKS
@69JANKS 11 ай бұрын
Hey RH, there’s not much to them. Just remember that bolting straight onto a 351ci (3.5” stroke) Compression goes high because 2V Closed Chambers were only on aussie🇦🇺”302ci” Clevelands ok…so will need to relief & lay back the chamber a little to get it in the 10.5:1 region…unless leave it & run e85 Carby deal🤷🏻‍♂️ Some light port work in the port runners, bowl areal & valve bosses is all it needs to wake em up & make 450hp/450ft-lb obviously with the supporting mods. Up to you on Hyd or Solid Cam deal, Solid you have to machine your rocker pedestal‘s down flat & machine/tap for screw in stud/rockers. Machining for 4V valve size is ok, some only do the exhaust in 4V size, some ppl leave it all alone 2V All depends on the “stoutness” of the combination. Check out some of my vids on 2V stuff that I’ve had in the days. All the best👍🏼🏁

@@racerd9669 not sure if it’s the best head just being based on inl-port CCs lol, don’t have their sales results…….but most likely still availability thru them directly I’d say. That version was an early one too around 2004’ish ….. it all depends what Ci & combination at the end…..eg:can’t put pee-shooter heads on a big 400+ci serious deal🤷🏻‍♂️ port volume still come in play They do a “Pro-port” 3V version which has 242cc intk ports (4V territory) But towards 2008-2012 most guys I’d know we’re opting for the 218-225 3Vs 208 were the past sorta at that point.
