Good to see you enjoying our back yard, this is literally my back yard. You even camped at one of our family camp sites in the trees. We were there for New Years. We are from Pouto Point and went to school there. I still live locally in Dargaville. I love this place and I love your channel @4WD New Zealand

Mates do you worry about salt? I do a fair bit. Bought a 70 series new and the cost of it makes you think twice. Anyway what treatment do you do beforehand and after a beach mission?

wondering how much are those tyres? a mate just told me his cost $600 each ! and they were just plain compared to those knobbly ones.. if you get into 4wd, is there a cheaper way to get tyres which are going to trash offroad..?
@4WDNewZealand4 жыл бұрын
They 762s are no longer in production but when they were they were around $400. we now run the Maxxis RAZR. They have proven to be fantastic so far. Yes if your sole intention is to go offroad and mudding the something like a trep or a Mud zilla is what you want. But if your like us and do alot of road and gravel kms too you need something a bit longer lasting.

Make sure you write the rego plate numbers down for these vehicles so you know which ones never to buy as they will be eaten out with salt water.

Just a question, are you dropping your tyre pressures on the sand to about 21psi? Just looking at the tyres and tracks left in the sand and the amount of times you got stuck... or is the sand that soft
@4WDNewZealand3 жыл бұрын
Great question mate. Initially we dropped pressures to to around 20-24psi. However that was way to high for the sand. We ended up around 15psi. The scene where we are trying to winch up the dune, both Hilux's have internal bead-locks and were down to 8psi. Normal go to pressure for soft sand is now 10-15psi, we have never rolled a tire off the rim, it just comes down to driving style. Hope it helps

@@4WDNewZealand Hey Lars, thats awesome and good to see. I'd like to direct you to 4xoverland. There is heaps of experience and info you might want to look at. I can vouch for Tons of good South African products out there that is just not available here and should be explored and at favourable price too with the exchange rate. Just saying...

Where did you get that rear bar from interested
@4WDNewZealand7 жыл бұрын
Langi Fehoko, the bar started life as an MCC bar for a 76 series although sold as a bolt on option for our truck. Took about 7 months to get it after ordering it if the supplier and cost another $800 to custom mount it.

Hi to drive on sand you don't need grippe tires you need wide tires.
@4WDNewZealand6 жыл бұрын
Vaughn Mahabi, actually narrow and tall tires are the best in sand. Sounds strange but with a narrow tire you have less rolling resistance. The taller the tire the longer the footprint. Which is what you want for maximum traction.
@King88_86 жыл бұрын
Wider tyres create a larger ridge of sand in front of it as well(rolling resistance). ATs tend to work better on sand as well

whats the story with needing the local iwis permission to go to the lighthouse? who would i contact regarding this. cheers

No Permission needed to visit Pouto point lighthouse. The snad dunes and beach are a public.

Just respect the land and pack in pack out.
@beezane1504 жыл бұрын
Actually you are no longer allowed to drive up to the lighthouse anymore, it has been fenced off with signage from D.O.C, the Heritage Trust, the local Iwi, Te Uri o Hau and inforced by the NZ Police. So please respect our Lighthouse and stay off the area that has been protected. Unfortunately due to excessive 4WD use the land surrounding the Lighthouse has dangerously eroded and drivers have been smashing and leaving their alcohol bottles at the base of the Lighthouse also. Feel free to enjoy the rest of the beach that is open to the public. Cheers from a born and raised Pouto local whos Grandparents donated alot of this land including the site of the Marine Hall Campground, for pubic pleasure and use. I am a big 4WD enthusiast but sadly some ruin it for all.
