I was camping in eastern Oregon by the Idaho border in a super quiet very isolated valley. Literally no one around for miles. 4 A-10 warthogs come screaming overhead even lower than this. It was visceral. You can feel it in your bones. There is a squad of them that are based in Boise.

Yes! Love that for you dude, especially after experiencing this, if they were much lower i would of been knocked to the floor! The wind from that final one was like a mini tornado whipping around me. Incredible experience.

If one has never experienced the raw power and thrust from those engines - it's absolutely terrifying. I've been fortunate to see them up close and once on a direct mission. When they go full throttle and pop the sound barrier it feels like a heard of bulls is running through you, and that's not hyperbole. Those are some wicked aircraft and they make their intention very clear - fuck around and find out.

Luckily for the enemy, they don't even have to shoot at them to take them down. The pilots just have to eject when a system fails or the plane just ejects them because it feels like it.

When I was on a hiking trip with the air cadets, the RAF heard about it and dispatched 2 Typhoons to our position. They found our group near the summit of Ben Macdui and did a close fly by and it was f***ing amazing.

I would have jumped out of my skin!! The loudest I can recall hearing were sea harriers, doing a show at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. As a kid went to Farnborough Air show a few times, you were allowed close up to the runway there, don't remember the shock of the sound though. Happy New Year Jack!!

Reminds me of a walk interrupted in Snowdonia many years ago. I was leaning on the wall of a small stone bridge across a stream enjoying the peace when I heard first a low "shhh..." then a thunderclap roar as a Tornado flew a couple of hundred feet overhead before standing on its tail at the head of the valley. B'st'd 😂

This is every day in Okinawa. It was neat at first, but 15 years later I'm pretty sick of it. My oldest son actually has hearing damage from it. They fly all day long over homes and schools and it has a huge negative impact on people here. Teachers have to pause classes multiple times a day because the noise gets so bad. In addition to the F-22s, we have Ospreys, helicopters, and C-130s that fly over and they mostly just fly in circles for flight hour requirements so we hear it over and over and over. They are cool to see at first, but it really sucks when the noise becomes a constant nearly every day all day in your life.

Used to live in Tulsa near the airport. Seeing a fighter take off and fly nearly vertical tells you the amount of power in those bad boys. They don't even need to fly supersonic to set off car alarms, but when they do it will probably hurt your ears.

Oh boy, I felt that! Been through that when I had gotten out of my car in Death Valley, California. I was just photographing a Joshua Tree and this fighter jets booms through the air not that far from me and way too close to the ground. The speed they go at is insane. There was no place to hide, and I did feel like hiding! I must admit though, I’d love to be in one and just enjoy the speed, and maybe doing a few flip flops….. 🤭

I've had various US military aircraft catch me off guard. Just after 9/11 I lived in Florida with 2 Naval bases on each end of the city , nothing in the air except military, they pulled out some equipment I didn't know they had there ,, Tbey we're doing drills for weeks getting ready to move if told to.. the one were harrier jump jets, doing touch and go maneuvers. They would take off vertically fly across a major road loop around and do it again .

It’s unlikely there are any F22s among the flight, there were relatively few built and none were exported to US allies. None are based in the UK from what I have read. Conversely, both the RAF and Royal Navy operate the F35, which is probably what that flight was.
