MercuryX Well at a few points Alexis was angry that Steven and Claudia and Danny had moved back in the mansion and didn’t tell her about it until a little later. She was angry that they chose to move int the mansion instead of with her. She came down on Claudia a bit, but like Andy Smith just said in the previous post , she did stand up to Alexis as well.

When written and played as a flinty social climber, like in this scene, Kirby was interesting. Her marriage to Adam could have been killer. Unfortunately, the writers kept weaving Kirby back and forth between the sharp girl with her eye on the upstairs bedroom and a spineless damsel in constant distress. It made the character confusing and pointless. Wasted opportunity.

Exactly. In comparison, the reason why the character of Sammy Jo had so much staying power, was because early on they switched gears with her character. She went from being a flighty tomgirl, to trailer trash who was also a laser focused social climber, with intelligence and sharpened claws to match. Now SHE turned the Carringtons on their ear..

Kirby was a Young Lady who wanted so desperately to rise above her "Humble Beginnings". Can you imagine how challenging it must have been growing up the Daughter of The Help who saw The Children of Blake Carrington and Cecil Colby's Nephew grow up with so many perks. Skiing in Gstaad, Switzerland (who knows) attending the world's best Private Schools, being a debutante and presented to Colorado Society, attending the best Ivy League Schools and having Corporate Opportunities waiting for you the minute you "graduated". It was like Jamie Ewing On Dallas, it shows one thing, just because you have the "Name" doesn't men you will have the "Money" "Status" or "Power". Tyrell's Jackson's Girlfriend Brea with whom she has a Family with is angry because she doesn't live the "Glamorous Lifestyle" of being a Jackson. Tyrell and his Brothers TJ (Tito Jr) and Taj had brief success in the UK as 3T but after The Child Sex Scandal with Uncle Michael and Aunt Janet's Superbowl Debacle, their credibility and career went down the drain and they never recovered since then.

Kathleen Beller is also the Wife of Thomas Dolby who created The "Chip" for Cell Phones. He also had the Hit "She Blinded Me With Science". She also got her start as Liza Walton on Search For Tomorrow and was in Godfather II as an Entertainer whose Father has to give "Money" to Fanucci each week. The Sorbonne is next to Oxford one of Europe's Top Schools. Molly Ringwald attended there as did one of Malcolm X's Daughters. I felt so bad for Kirby but she should have known that she'd never measure up to being part of the Carrington Family. Also it must have been so hard for her growing up seeing The Carrington Children grow up with some much privilege. The Top Boarding Schools, and Universities as well as Coming Out in A Debutante Ball not to mention going Skiing in Switzerland. Geoffrey Scott who played Mark also played Billy Lewis II on Guiding Light.

We should find out (maybe in phantom Season 10) that Alexis and Joseph had a drunken one-night stand back in 1961 when Blake was out of town and Joseph was distraught over his wife, Alycia, being held in an asylum. Alexis learns she's pregnant, taunts Joseph with the possibility that she'll tell Blake about the tryst, and she criticizes Joseph's boudoir skills. She then "flies home to Mummie" in London for a while, has her baby, and returns with it to the States, and then presents the infant Kirby to Alycis in the asylum, causing the unstable Alycia to have one final mental breakdown and then jealously kills her lover -- an opportunistic guard who'd been sleeping with many of the patients. By 1982, when a grown Kirby shows up in Denver, Alexis is at first unsure who the girl is, but then schemes to send Kirby back to Paris to break up her incestuous romance with half-brother Adam... And this is the horrid secret that Joseph was willing to kill Alexis for by setting fire to the cabin -- not because Kriby's mom is still alive and under lock-and-key as a murderess, but because her mother is Alexis!! All told in a note from Joseph, meant for Blake and held in escrow by Joseph's attorneys, not to be opened for 7 years after his death.

I didn't either but, in retrospect, the problem was the writers never made up their mind if Kirby was an ambitious, social climbing viper or a brainless victim. When Kirby was flinty and ambitious, she was an excellent character (and had a lot of potential teamed up with Adam), but when she got all Miss Goodie Two Shoes she was a whiny drag.
