I have a question i hope is not stupid 😅 Changing the pinions for different ratio will affect the road use/speed/acceleration or will just engage in Low range? Also, i was thinking to install a rear diff (4 pins) in the front casing, whats ur opinion? Thank you for these vids, anyone can learn a lot 😊

Hi Thank you for message! As I have increased tyre size the ratio has gone up, so in effect less revs and say 40 mph. This is effecting the low range also as is of same drive system, so lowering from 3:57 to 4:12 is putting everything back to normal as from factory👍. The 4 pin diff is effectively twice as strong so is always a great idea, however if you intend to install locking diffs at some point that will all be changed anyway. Hope this helps! Regards Martin

Hi You will have to do both or one axle will want to turn faster than the other😀 I picked 4:12 ratio as wanted to keep close to factory settings so mpg and acceleration are standard. As you know 4.6 V8 are not great on fuel so don’t want to make it worse 😀👍 Cheers Martin

Please tell me - are differentials from 4.6 to 4 pins completely interchangeable in all respects with 2.5 DSE to 2 pins? .. Gear ratios on all P38s are the same in stock? ..

Hi Thanks for message! All diff ratios are 3:54 on P38, rear has 4 pin but front has 2 pin. If you change front for 4 pin you will have to change ring and pinion for a front one as they are different mesh but same ratio. Hope this helps Regards Martin

All you need to remove is a wheel, then 6 bolts and pull the axle assembly out. Cables are long enough for that so no need to remove the caliper, the rotor, the sensor. I did it yesterday.

@@all4x451 That'd be the only legit excuse! 🤣 I just fitted Ashcroft ATB rear diff into my '98 SE 4.0 and very pleased with the results. Rear only TC on pre-99 models is too weak in certain conditions but ATB acts as the TC multiplier so the rig became unstoppable.

@Alex_556 lol 😂 Ashcroft gear seems to be good quality. At some point I will fit front and rear lockers, that will then eliminate the weak front diff as only a two cog not a four like the rear! There’s always work and upgrades to be done😂
