Just a breif comparison on the difference an Ashcroft Air Locker makes to my P38 Range Rover. Same day, same obstacle, same tyre pressures and the exact same 4wd. Some things could have been done differently, however it's only a breif comparo, not an in-depth scientific test! Thanks for watching.

thanks for the demo, it shows how effective and what difference a diff lock makes. Nice.

i have 96 p38a without traction control but have added frount and back ARB lockers / that extra locker on the frount makes a big difference even more noticeable , and yes - your right ......one of the best traction investments you can make .

Thanks for the demo. Been thinking about putting an ARB air locker on my 4Runner. A bit spendy but appears to be well worth the investment.

Nice work, amazing difference it makes. I've seen a stock standard 100 series LC, D22 Navara and Suzuki Jimmy eat that hill up though :P

I like the air locker for the P38, but how much it's cost, as I'm living in Kuwait, and it's available overhere.

With your air locker, did you have to do anything special to disable the traction control when your locker is engaged?

Mitch Martin No mods or changes required to the traction control mate 👍

I keep looking back at this and think how good an investment that locker was... This was just a demo on private property to show how it benefits in this situation at around 1400rpm in low first... I have done this hill many a time without locker, but hey - if you've got it and it saves driveline stress then use it! It's a bit hard to see in the vid, this hill is un-walkable in thongs! Very loose surface and really steep! And do-able in any standard 4wd if you pick the right line! The washouts

@theponder- it's a Thor with 4w tc. @drarbo - you are correct. This vid does not demonstrate just how steep this hill is. Cameras never do justice to climbs like this!

Howdy, Nice video. Busy prepping my 97 p38 for serious use ! If I'm not mistaken 99 was the cross over from lucas and 2w TC to Gems and 4w TC. Out of curiosity is yours the former or latter ?

It is the latter 4 wheel traction control

If the air locker is switched on, is the Tc on the front axle even working?

András Molnár Yes, the traction control remains active with lockers on.

They make a big difference for you here, but to be honest i can climb small hills like this and far more with ease in my IFS twin cab, it has factory LSD. I have done some 4wding with landrover guys and in all honesty with open diffs they cant get anywhere near a basic 4x4 fitted with an LSD, i thought Defenders were pretty good off-road but without a locker or LSD they're not much better than a Rav 4, same goes for Disco's, very ordinary as standard.

i presume you are just taking the piss. Its well documented that solid axels (whether it be nissan, toyota, jeep and landrover) are much better CVT. Discoveries went through a period were they ran open diffs and used TC. 2000-02 period.. However you could buy aftermarket CDL kits as the internals were generally still there. Ive owned Mitsubishi, nissan, toyota and landrover. My first-hand experience is the land rovers from the factory are exceptional good and outperformed my Mitsubishi with Matt traction control and left my D40 for dead. Hence which is why i've kept my disco.

Continued from last post... The washouts swallowed my 31" tyres whole but the suspension did a great job of keeping the tyres in touch as much as possible! Best investment ever... I have some more examples on my username (kwager) on tracks even better than this one, the locker really turns it into a tank!
