SO close yet so close. I'd say we are about 95% done. This video covers about 3/4 days of which two were spent with some long hours and almost dehydration. Poor planning on my part and just working in a sauna like garage will do that. I need a ton of fans.
At this point I just need shocks, track bar, interior put back together and figure out whats going on with my front driveshaft. It's too long when it should actually be too short. Not sure what happened there but I will figure it out.
This isn't a perfect epic swap but thats why this channel is called Jeep Noob. Not Jeep Badass. That and I'm not that conceited. We like to wheel and just have fun along the way. No time for all of that serious drama BS. No frills getting it done and having fun. Classic Jeep Noob.

that helps a ton. Honestly I would not have even attacked this if I hadn't found your videos. I just got my front end cut out of the parts Jeep today I'm getting closer everyday lol thanks for the step by step videos it gave me hope it can be done and really isn't that bad

Don't know about those crimps joining those wires. They not really good, I'd had soldiered them and shrink wrapped the much more reliable!! Cheers love the videos....

It'll be fine, I gave them all good tugs and taped them up really well. Soldering is the best way but this works fine too.

just bought all the parts for mine yesterday. the transmission looks a little intimidating with all of the cables and hoses. I got mine out of the same year, though, so I won't have to do any wiring. hope everything works!

+Anthony Atchley I was really impressed with how much better it performs. I mean besides the obvious it really makes everything so much easier. You doing lockers at the same time?

Jeep_ Noob no. those will come later. 4x4 first, then 4.5in lift, then big tires. after that, I'm going to regear to 4.56 gears and beef up the axles.

hey...good vid...did you have to change the transmission..or can you use the same one..but transfer everything to put on the transfercase?..also did you have to get a drivesaft for the front?

+Eric Galindo Yes the two wheel drive transmission has a longer output shaft and will not work with 4x4 unless you did some internal work. Yes, you need a 4x4 transmission or do some internal work on yours and change out the output shaft, a transfer case, front axle and front and rear driveshafts.

I'm converting mine now and as this is very helpful I'm lost as to what the T case plugs up to? Does the transfer case need to be wired in to something there's only plugs for the transmission?

No, just needs the linkage attached to the shifter assembly

hi I'm doing this right now. I've got my transmission and transfer case in its drivable now.i have a question I extended the speed sensor no problem but I can't find any wire that plugs in to the transfer case? does the two wheel drive not have that pig tail in the harness no big deal just kinda ocd

I'm not 100% sure without pictures. So basically there is a speed sensor that plugs into the back of the transfer case. I also believe this is where the speedometer gets its reading from. I could be wrong about the speedometer part but for sure there is a speed sensor back there. Seeing as I just swapped the plug over because of the model year difference those wires were already ran on mine. When you picked up the transmission and transfer case I assume it didn't have the wiring in it? There should be two speed sensors, I believe, on the 4x4 wiring. This is based off the wiring diagrams I've found though. That was my best resource, you can google and find the 2wd vs the 4wd and it will show the differences. Sorry if that doesn't help, it probably sounds a bit confusing though.

ok your trans and tcase prob came from a fourdoor which is a longer wheelbase so find a two door Cherokee shaft or have your cut or longer arms

It's all the same 2 door and four door. I ended up hooking it up and it was fine. just an optical illusion on my end.

It’s all bolt on if you have the right tools and capabilities. I’d think most garage mechanics could do it

Now this is a bit out of my knowledge span but “I believe” you can either have yours remapped or if you can swap it all over from your donor rig that would be even better. Wiring harness and all

+Jeffrey Dean I have 4.5" Rubicon Express coils from Amazon for $70 shipped and then 3.5" Rubicon Express Leaf Springs that were new and I got from someone for $100. Looks pretty level now but I'll know more when I get them settled after I get the track bar and shocks on
