Very well explained in comparison to many videos I have browsed so far. I am sure someday it'll come very handy for me. Thank a lot mate. I came looking for videos on KZbin for "How to drive downhill on a steep winding tarmac road". However I phrased my query the google results showed only "Off road" driving contents and therefore explained 4L. I believe that, driving few kilometers down hill on a pretty busy steep winding tarmac road will be a lot different from driving down hill on a scarcely used off road. I believe instead of 4L it requires 4H to be used without HDC. Can someone kindly explain "how to drive down hill on a pretty busy steep winding tarmac road for few kilometers" and/or "using 4H without HDC" or point me to any material on it. Thanks

I find hill descent control to be essentially useless, it isn't smooth and doesn't feel like very controlled. Low range in the right gear while feathering the brakes as needed will always be a more effective method, unless the driver isn't able to manage which is usually the weak point in any vehicle.

As I found out today even with hill descent control, if you’re going down a steep slope and it slides it won’t help you at all 🙃

I thought lockers on while going downhill was a no no? Doesn’t it tighten the steering?

Only if front lockers are on.

How can I safely negotiate an extremely steep decline using a manual 4x4 vehicle while off-roading? The slope is so steep that if I take my foot off the brake, the car will roll downhill very quickly. I need to use the brake and clutch to prevent the engine from stalling, but this puts a lot of strain on the brakes and hubs and doesn't allow enough oil pumping. Should I use a heel-toe downshifting technique or blip the accelerator to manage this situation effectively without fully relying on the brakes? How can I best use first gear to control the descent without stalling the engine?
