We have both Gen3 Tacoma OR 4x4 and tundra 4x4 in our family and have many many miles off road with both I can tell you this much Tacoma is much much better off roader than the tundra where the tundra struggles Tacoma makes it look easy I like the tundra but the Gen3 Tacoma is definitely my all time favorite I love that truck

I can say with absolute confidence that the concrete Grey taco with the rack and boxes top the cab knows his truck, he has the most experience with his truck amongst the rest.

I've got a 2012 GX460 and she just rolls right up sand and slick rock in 4 low with the ATRAC system on 33's. I've never driven up a hill in snow and ice though. I had a 2012 Tundra and miss it. I test drove several Tacomas and did not enjoy any of them. Terrible seating position and the V6 did not impress me at all. I'd rather install a locker on a Tundra and deal with the shortcomings of a larger, more comfortable rig.

I owned a 2020 Tacoma and now own a 2017 Tundra, both are great trucks. Tacoma was great off road. Tundra is better at everything else so far in my opinion, I’m not a rock crawler. Mild off road tundra eats it up just fine. Get some good tires.

@terrarecon2 жыл бұрын
You're correct the Tundra weighs more and that is a factor. However, the Tundra driver seemed to approach everything much slower than the Tacoma. I own a Tundra and these things stuck out to me. It is as much as how the rig is driven as it is how much it weighs. Also, unless I missed it, I did not catch any mention of airing down the tires on either truck.

Tundras are very nice, and smooth ride quality as well. Tacomas are flat out just better on the trail and in tough rocky terrain and hills. It really comes down to the driver, tires, suspension, and rear lockers… Great video though
@chrisguapo692 жыл бұрын
Looks like the Tundras had to power their way though. The Tacomas made it look easier. Were all trucks aired down? Would have been nice if there was also info on tire pressures, whether they locked their diffs, or were open diffs.

These drivers don’t understand you need momentum before starting the climb. They are starting slow and waiting until their momentum is nearly gone before hitting the gas. They should start with momentum and never slow down. All of them let off the gas part way up the climb. Never get off the gas until you are over the top

If you control for the tires (tires being the same) it looks like the tundra’s often had to resort to their HP and torque and couldn’t crawl. Higher risk for vehicle damage. Last Tacoma had less than optimal tires. Also I am not a huge fan of KO2’s- prefer Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT’s.
@Kevincheesepizza2 жыл бұрын
I keep seeing how everyone insults Tundra for not having a real locking differential… is this true? I have a 2018 TRD 4x4… but if so, I mean who cares this video shows how capable this trucks are. Maybe the new 22’ has it.

Are you speaking from experience or just your own observations and conjecture? I own a 2010 Tundra 4x4. We have over 6,000 Tundras in my group. We take them off-road regularly to all sorts of locations far more technical than this, such as Broken Arrow Sedona, Moab, Table Mesa, Five Mile Pass, etc. Albeit none of the Tundras in my group that do go on these technical trails are stock, neither are any Tacomas we've seen on those same trails. The Tacoma is generally a better rig for off-roading (depending on what kind of off-roading one is doing). Regarding the Tundra's off-roadability, I am speaking from personal experience that I know, the Tundra is off-road capable with the right modifications, just like any other 4x4, as there are limits about how technical any 4x4 can go off-roading completely bone stock, including a Jeep Wrangler.
