I'm sure your team has discussed it - load these things up with gear / weight. Similar to your Ike Gauntlet runs. Load them up and then do the off road testing. That is how most people will use them in the "real world". How do they behave when they are close to load capacity? How much can you put in before reaching load capacity? Are the stock tires good enough when that is the case?

Just recently downsized from tundra to Tacoma and it’s a big change for several reasons. The tundra was spacious, ultra reliable, plenty of power, and unfortunately a gas guzzler. The Tacoma is very efficient which is great as a one person commuter truck. I missed my tundra especially yesterday when I tried to fit my big cooler under my folding tonneau cover yesterday it wouldn’t close :(. Made almost 7000 of my lease sale to Carvana and put it all down on the Tacoma so it made a lot of sense financially. I miss the tundra and look forward to its new efficient engine!

Both are great trucks. I chose the Taco because I want the go anywhere flexibility and truck bed availability when needed. I also like that it fits in my garage. If I was towing heavy, I would have chosen the Tundra. Too me that is anything over 5000 pounds. I prefer to have ample truck for my loads. I have towed 3000 pounds in my Taco and it does great, but in the end it is a mid size truck versus a full size truck, You should size appropriately and not buy in to all the hype about how much each can tow, but rather how much each can tow safely.

Then why not buy a legitimately fuel efficient truck like the hybrid F-150 or a diesel Silverado?
@KTMcaptain3 жыл бұрын
@@PeakDecline because Toyota people lack common sense. Say the average Toyota lasted 300k vs the Ford at 200k. The fuel savings alone offsets the little price difference (especially since Ford gives better discounts meaning the truck can be worth more used than bought even before COVID) and can easily pay for a new engine and trans. . But the hilarious thing is that Toyota advertises that their vehicles are "perceived" to be more reliable and not that their data shows they are. Says all it needs to. My Tacoma was a pile of problems that I sold at 25k miles because I was just sick of the thing. . Simply getting 18mpg instead of 14mpg would have saved the 350k mile owner over 5,500 gallons of fuel. At $3 per gallon that costs $16,700 more and the F150 would probably get a better MPG differential than that.

Resale on the current Tundras is insane right now. Lots of people are scrambling to get the last of the V8s and paying a premium to do so. You guys keep saying you need to be on level ground to go into 4Lo. Not true. Level ground means no tension in the 4x4 system. You can achieve the same thing on a hill by popping it into neutral, lift the brake, let it roll a bit, then hit the brakes. This relieves any tension in the diffs and transfer case. Now switch into 4Lo, listen for the solenoid clunk, then put it back into drive.

@@samuelrowland76 I think that because the next gen Taco is not slated until 2024, they are going to have to do something before then, and it would be an easy update or option. Here's something I picked up from MotorBiscuit: "There’s certainly the possibility for a hybrid powertrain. Considering Toyota’s promises to hybridize or electrify its fleet in the coming years, it’s not wild to imagine hybrid powertrains rolling out for Toyota trucks and SUVs. Especially considering Toyota’s recent press release announcing three upcoming electrified models. We certainly think that a hybrid option is possible. Also, technical tweaks and the addition of more standard features will be welcome. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma has a pretty hefty list of standard equipment. Still, that doesn’t mean new additions can’t turn up on that list. There are some features the Taco could benefit from. While the Toyota Tacoma standard features are already pretty satisfying, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma may add missing security features or updated tech for the infotainment. Additionally, an interior redesign would be seriously welcome. But we don’t want too much."

If you’re 6’3 and 250, it would be a safe bet that you won’t be comfortable in a Tacoma. Great truck for an average size guy

From the front tundra looks like I am coming for you and taco looks likes I am coming wait a sec I would be there

I don’t like how cramped the Tacoma is. So I would have to have the Tundra.
Put the trucks in a high clearance situation, this isn’t off roading this is soft roading

Toyota is the only truck I have ever owned where it ate a rear end, twice. I was not impressed with the “Toyota” reliability.

@tfloffroad love your videos! I just made it to Moab with a stock 2013 200 series Land Cruiser. How comfortable would you be doing Finns N' Things? I want to give it a shot but would a stock LC make it thru? Thanks!

I really wanted to like the Tacoma when we looked for a truck. It would probably be 'enough' for all the truck stuff I needed, but the back seat was unusable for passengers beyond kids or a 30min ride. Not s huge issue, we only have dogs. Then it was bed length, hardwood often comes longer than 8ft but I could make due. The killer was the price. At the time,2018, Tacoma's in dealer lots with a bit more options than I really needed were well into the 45k range...my F150 was 10k less and that left plenty of room to buy the rack, bed slide, Retrax, rooftop tent on the rack, and Bilstein suspension front and rear. About the only thing that bugs me is the occasional narrow trail in the PNW and scratches...but it's a truck and I plan on having it for 8+ years so oh well lol

Why are you eating time talking about towing when this video is supposed to be about which is best off-road? Do you take a lot of trailers off-roading?

Why does the tundra not have as many offroad features? The trd off road and pro models should have more.

old platform too expensive to integrate into, same reason Ford killed their cash cows Crown Victoria and Ranger in 2011.

Toyota vehicles require you to be in 4HI before you can engage the low range.

The answer is the 4runner. Jk I'm biased. I like the size of the tacoma and I've wheeled with some tacoma guys, they are very capable stock. Also had a buddy with a 5.7 Tundra and it was awesome for long trips because its roomy. It's tough. Most of us want them all for different purposes.

That is why I have 3 trucks and a commuter car. They each serve their purpose.

I hope they do a good job with the new Tundra whenever it comes out. The current gen is fine, but it's just comically big and weirdly proportioned, can never tell if it's a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton.
@fj4000073 жыл бұрын
Definitely a 1/2 ton truck. Actually, the Tundra has the lowest payload and towing capacity of all the 1/2 ton trucks out there. It's really outdated considering its competitors.
