This video was made long before Toyota built a double-cab version of their 70-series PU. This was shot in South Africa.

Some full-time center differentials are more effective than others, such as certain Torsen equipped Toyota's vs the less effective model in that Land Rover Defender.

I used to think that Gas-Oil shocks were the best but my opinion has changed. I prefer the all-oil type shocks.

Great video series no matter how old it is! I can't stop watching them. I do have one question regarding the full-time 4WD/permanent 4WD system that you mentioned. You said locking the center diff to enable 50/50 ratio front and back to gain the safety advantage of having real 4WD (regardless of high or low range). If I want 50/50 front and back or if the going gets tough, I would definitely lock the center diff. I can see that one wheel spin can cause you to lose traction if you have an open center diff permanent 4WD system. What if the vehicle is equipped with torsen sensing or viscous coupling locking center diff that changes the distribution ratio front and back depending on the slip? Just like a limited slip center differential. Would you still recommend locking the center diff? Example vehicles would be Jeep Grand Cherokee, LC Prado (LC120/150), and LC100/200.

Viscous coupling transmission means that drive is even over all wheels, and therefore its less necessary to lock up that transmission to get the safety advantages. Its really only necessary to lock when traction is extremely uneven between the wheels, I.e. when wheels lift etc.

If I lock the central diff lock and turn at a relatively high speed or drift, can it damage the vehicle?

I was thinking may be start converting them to dvd and or blue ray..
@4xoverland7 жыл бұрын
They were made into VHS tapes, then DVDs from 1996 to 2013. Today, nobody uses DVDs, and nobody buys this kind of programming on BlueRay. Instead, all my productions, are available as high-def and 4K downloads on 4xoverland.com.

Why are these films uploaded again and again? I've seen this at least 3 times now after it being uploaded yet again.
@4xoverland10 жыл бұрын
There are a few video bites of the series, 4WD-season-1 already on KZbin. The vast bulk of this series is not on KZbin and will be uploaded in the coming months. In addition, some old uploads that are of poor video quality have been replaced with high definition files.
