Thank you for so eloquently explaining what it truly means to go off-road. People need vehicles to access the remote parts of our planet. And, it can be done in a way that is both scenic and sensitive to the environment. The earth is much more resilient than people give it credit. Off-road enthusiasts are every bit environmental as the next guy, they just choose to enjoy the out-doors in a method that allows them to see more of it. Stop the wilderness close-out. And, your truck IS awesome.

Thanks for putting this together. It's great! Very exciting to watch the progress on this amazing vehicle. I absolutely love it! But what I'm geting the biggest kick out of is.....that this is not costing me a cent. Having said all that, I am bloody envious & this vehicle - with a camper conversion not as flash as this one - is something I believe wuld be a great addition to my family. Part 2 here I come.

Hi Andrew, have you ever considered bead lockers for your wheels? You get them in aluminium (light), you can change the tyre on the rim, and you only have to carry a spare tyre without the rim (weight saving). That is over and above the other benefits of wheel lockers. Also used extensively by the military.
@4xoverland10 жыл бұрын
Yes I have. But I don't often travel in very heavy dune conditions, and my Cruiser doesn't really have enough power to shed a tyre (Unless I was a complete idiot) so I don't really need them. In my case they would be overkill.

What does it mean to most city people to have a 4wd? It means a car that can carry lots of shopping and not have 4wd used or the benifits and add ons. To me good tryes, snorkel, winch, awning, roof racks, suspension lift and a clutch that can withstand the tensions and strees of 4wdriving and also to carry what you need and a little more.

Hey, it's a Toyota Land cruiser 78 series troop carrier, I'm assuming it has the 1hz 4.2 litre engine Toyota has used for years. In Australia they're sold with a 4.5 litre turbo v8. I like the look of the pre 2007 models better lol.

this looks like a great vehicle. Did you consider land rover option for the ultimate camper, and if so, what ruled them out? Also, do you have a long-range fuel tank fitted to the camper. What size is needed to support the overland trip from Cape to London. I guess that there are some stretches without ready access to fuel??

Why is there always some nozzle like you whining about resolution on every dang video on youtube. Are you guys like some little high def police force? A group of citizens, banded together, as it were, to make sure the world can be seen trough someone else's camera in high rez? For pete's sake if you want an outdoors themed video that looks good, turn off the youtube and go the F outside. Don't sit inside bellyaching about someone else's work like you're somehow entitled to something more, when it's free in the first place. Bugger off.

Andrew, What are your thoughts on a budget 4x4 conversion for those of us who love overlanding, but have recently left uni and can't pinch our parents 4x4's anymore. I was thinking of a second hand Hilux single cab with some sort of canopy with all the gear necessary. What are your thoughts on the most reliable second hand 4x4's for weekend/ holiday use?

Nice execution Andrew. I have a question though. Most of the compartments seem to be made out of plywood/veneer and aluminium. Do you think they ll be rattle free over usage? Also, did they upgrade the battery and the alternator to ensure that your fridge, your kettle..the works, keep running even when stationary?

I have my doubts when it comes to this solution. Considering the strain on the chassis of the car when your out in the bush I don't think its a good solution to put such a rigid structure on the top of the car and bolt it to the top of the car. From day one (particularly in out in the wilderness) those two structures will have their own little internal war and the winner is the one that cracks last.

Andrew, you've done a great job with the troop carrier. Do you still think the Prado 150 is a good platform? Your original Autograph 4x4 was a Prado wasn't it? I'm trying to decide what to get for touring Australian outback but still be able to drive around the city. Love the video.

For better drive you shuld think about changing leaf springs to coil springs at rear suspension.
@4xoverland10 жыл бұрын
It was an option, but I decided against it. Any modification can alter the reliability, and I think this is why it's not a very popular modification here in Africa.

4xforum leaf springs can handle a lot . I just fitted a set of air bags just to assist with heavy heavyweight..

In the US maybe. In Africa? Not. OME make outstanding springs. but their shocks are not ideal for Africa, in my experience, there are better ones on the market, and sometimes for less money.
