It is not only amazing the quality and exhaustivity of the information you show, but the amount of love and care put into proper referencing and crediting your sources is beyond many “professional” works. A true labour of love. Total respect from Spain. Looking forward to part 3

mark davison whoah, thank you, Mark! Well, Spain had their own rave scene and there’s a clear connection through Ibiza. Also, we have our own reggae/raggamuffin scene and a couple of big festivals. Grime however is totally non existant, and although some hipsters would claim they listened to “Boy in da corner” from start to end, there’s a strong language barrier. I myself can grasp everything they say through that thick accent. The OI! panorama is still active and associated to certain political views, so it’s somewhat different to its UK counterpart but really interesting from a musical standpoint. For me the thing is that I’m in my early forties, so most of the people I know are not interested in anything really, apart from talking about the cost of their car insurance and “grown up matters” like those. Of course there are lots of people still curious, but the social chances of meeting them get somewhat reduced. And yes, sometimes, like you say, I meet some English people abroad like this bloke at work. He was young enough and I start talking about tv shows and bands, but his interests were more into Coldplay, Dancing With The Stars and whatever Rihanna single they play on the Pro Evolution Soccer loading screen. It’s hard to find other music buffs around. However here we are! Much respect to you, mate! Keep following your passion

3 years late to the party! I was at Iration Steppah's 10th (or maybe 15th?) anniversary party in Chapel town back in '09. The West Indian Centre was rammed!!! I spent 30 minutes trying to persuade a bouncer to let me out!!!! There was such a crowd outside that he was concerned they'd rush the door 😂😂😂 Banging night!

It's so interesting to see how developing technology of records, mixing, sound systems (& scarcity & cost) shaped culture because you had to actually show up in person to be a part of it. The ubiquitous tech & internet we have access to now just dilutes real world culture. We're more isolated & fractured. I appreciate documentaries like this.

And yet, the internet is precisely what allowed this documentary series to exist. I'm with you in general about music, but I think there's lots of positives too. I do agree that you have get through a lot more uninspired noise these days to find good music, but at least you can find it. I remember having to drive hours to record shops just to pay $10 a piece for a 12" with two songs on it. Now I can spend more money directly supporting labels/artists through new direct channels.

Truly I think many culture pieces around the world is under-highlighted and lack documentation to the point that they slowly become lost in history and to learn its roots is near impossible, so no lie what you had done here is important and amazing. Kudos!

Thank you for educating youth & all on the history of Champion Sounds, Dub Plates, etc. Being based in the US, we only got small taste of the culture via exclusive mix tapes/CD's played in cars and exchanged between friends. I got my first taste back in High School in the early 90's and kept trying to educate myself in this culture, but could never experience it to the extent I'm sure some of the crew here have. It opens you up to so much more music and culture. Much RESPECT to your crew for documenting this and other movements in this series. THE TREE HAS SO MANY ROOTS. DIG DEEP TO FIND YOUR CONNECTION!!!

Big Ups and Respect from the West Coast of the US. Real hard to find quality videos detailing the history of Sound System. As a DJ, I really do my best to not only know the new stuff, but know who we have to thank for the music really and truly. It's important to know the history. That's why I want to give you mad respect for how you brought up the racial issues between Dub and the US. This is something I've always noticed and suspected, but the banning of Babylon really is a BIG point to bring up. Thank you so much for educating me, and hopefully others, more.

Great doc. It's worth remembering the role of punk gigs in the dissemination of roots and dub throughout (particularly white) Britain. Prior to punk, I'd heard the more poppy aspect of reggae and ska. In those radical gigs, we got radical reggae sounds between the acts. On the big sound systems of night clubs, this was an eye opener. I've been on a bit of a quest to find lengthy postings of house/blues parties from the 70s/early80s on YT. Thanks for your suggestions. If anyone else can direct me to some, I'd be grateful. Those were beautiful and experimental times, more chilled than a lot of output today.
