5.3. Understanding Theory and Theme (Intro to Mock Trial)

"Introduction to Mock Trial" is a 10-part series and a program/course designed to introduce you to all aspects of mock trial. The topics are set out below in this description.
In this fifth part, Understanding Theory and Theme, I define THEORY and THEME in mock trial and I cover: (i) analyzing a case - good facts and bad facts; (ii) constructing your theory of the case (why do you prevail?); (iii) trying on different themes so that your audience understands your case; (iv) strategically organizing your case presentation; and, (v) opposing your opponent's case theory and theme.
Understanding Theory and Theme is broken down into three videos - 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3.

ABOUT ME:
Professor Wes Porter served as a trial attorney with the Department of Justice's Criminal Division, Fraud Section, in Washington D.C., the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Hawaii and the JAG Corps for the U.S. Navy stationed in the Trial Service Office Pacific. After lecturing, coaching mock trial and teaching as an adjunct professor for years, he moved to academia full-time teaching courses in Evidence, Criminal Law and Procedure, and skills courses like Trial Advocacy. Professor Porter earned tenure, became a full professor of law, and led a center devoted to litigation and trial skills training.
