Just finished reading about this battle in Howard Coffin's book Full Duty. Mr. Coffin has done a wonderful job keeping the memory of these brave Vermonters alive.

I heard a.p.hill of Grant's army at 5:23 mark. Is that his own book Mr. Coffin is reading at the 6:37 mark?

It was a disaster for the Union army in casualties, but thankfully it did not stop the Union armies momentum.

In the final assault on Petersburg, April 2, 1865, the Vermont Brigade was in the front of the line, the 5th being the first regiment to reach the enemy's works and there plant the Civil War Union Flag. It then joined in the pursuit and after Lee's surrender moved to Danville to cooperate with Gen. Sherman. That regiment from the Deep North played a major role in defeating the Deep South...

Why the pic of Black and White Confederats? trying to suggest Vermont sent integrated forces? they did not, that was Confederate army
