Damn your launches are brutal, I am amazed how that 302 is such a beast. Although I have to admit 289-351 engines have always amazed me. Such a beautiful car. I am not a pro racer, but I have been around cars and racing my whole life. There were 2 comments here that got my attention. One is to check to see during launch if it is briefly starving for gas because of that brutal launch, then stiffer front shocks. You probably already have I just thought they were good idea's. You have one bad ass blue oval my Friend REPRESENT 💪😊

Im trying an open half inch spacer on a dual plane Performer RPM intake. I read somewhere that the open spacer with a dual plane gets the best results. Not sure, never verified it at the track or dyno...but standing on it rolling in 2nd gear sure spins and drops some rubber 😊. . mild carbed 302 with 4.10s and a t5. Great video ! The Torino sounds fantastic !

I tested open and 4 hole tapered on my RPM Air Gap and the 4 hole performed better. Spacers definitely seem to be combo specific and just need to test it out and see.

@@mikeymac9 OK, they seem to be extremely combo specific, rpm range...cam specs...intake design...displacement, everything. Wish I had time to properly test them all 🤣

Nice car man. First thing I'd do is get some adjustable front shocks on it and slow the front rise down. Then play with the pinion angle & possible addition of a snubber. I'd try to do a swap of tire and gear too. 11 second cars always seem to pick up half track and top end mph when you run a 28 tall tire. A sticky radial would be nice. I would think the 302 would have the grunt to carry it with the addition of a 4.56 gear.

I mentioned the flywheel before heavy flywheel is not a theory 😂 . Used to be a maverick at our track years ago with a 6cyl N/A . Ran low 11s high 10s with a descent sized tire and that was the key. Glad your doing the clutch . Mccloud soft locks are designed for that specifically. . Something to consider is monitor AfR gauge at the time of bog? Fuel could be spilling out of the front vent on launch . used to run a hose vent to vent with hole on top . . What is your first gear ratio ?
@mikeymac9 Жыл бұрын
Looking at the gauge during the launch is tough and the led flashing on camera is tough too, especially since it happens so quick. I do run a hose on the vents. Don’t take this as an argument, I love talking cars and on the internet sometimes text can be seen as an argument. Lots of people mention flywheel weight but to me it is a theory. Flywheels don’t produce torque, they steal power. You don’t see people running massive crank pulleys and heavy balancers for inertia. The less weight the more power gets to the wheels. That’s how my brain works anyways lol. There is a great video by Cale Aronson talking about all the data they have seen and the inertia of a heavier flywheel is not worth it to him. I’ll see if I can find a link.

@@mikeymac9 I kinda agree with what he says but it’s more of a opinion. Also he did mention with the “correct gearing “ 2.95 first is not ideal for your combo.

Love your Torino. Have you considered using 4.57 gear or perhaps a lower 1st gear? Keep up the great work!👍

Do you have the old pinion snubber on the center section, old school put the Battery in the trunk and changing 1st&2nd gearto get it moving

I’ve thought about it but I do drive a lot on the road. It does have a nice .059 over drive 5th gear in it so I have been on the fence about.

@@mikeymac9 Just a thought, but i just looked and hoosier tire makes a 225-50-15 d.o.t drag radial= 23.9 in tall x 8.5 inch wide. I did the math, and its the equiv. If you had your 26s with a 4.67 gear ratio! It will get you more gearing @ the track, and still keep your lower rpm on the highway, with your reg. street tires. Plus you dont have to change gears, to see if that would have helped!

Just my opinion, but my guess is it was all track. I've been to test n tune nights where the car would leave decent, then turn in to a spooky ride once it got out about 300 feet, and that was with big tires on back. Also, I have no experience with a stick shift car, but have you thought about slowing down the front end rise to maybe reduce the bog? I know it needs weight transfer to hook, but if it's dead hooking and all the weight is there immediately, maybe it's more than that small inch motor can handle. Just a random thought.
@mikeymac9 Жыл бұрын
Yeah double adjustable front shocks are a thought to slow it down. Hoping it was just the track, we’ll find out next time lol

Track tire combo: are the front runners bias ply or radial? Rears are 26x10.50-15 stiff wall bias? Wish i could run mine at negative DA. Hero stuff for an NA car.
@mikeymac9 Жыл бұрын
Pretty lucky with the air here in the spring and fall. Fronts are MT bias ply sportsman’s. I’ve heard bad things about mixing radials and bias ply but never tried it myself.
@WesternSportSpecial Жыл бұрын
@@mikeymac9 Yes, radials and bias are not a recommended combo. That is where I was going with that question and your handling issues. I, however, mix radial front runners and ET Street R bias 26x10.50-15 on my 11 second Dart without issue at the track. It is a whole other story on the street with that combo; weird characteristics.

So I’m not saying they don’t work, I’m saying it won’t cure my bog issues. My trans is a 2.94 first… I have had thoughts of going to 4.56’s but I cruise a lot. Slipping the clutch is very hard to do and be competitive on .400 and .500 pro trees so that’s where the shimming the clutch comes in.
