Great Video! I started out with 5.8g after seeing your video's I did not know how to start in the hobby, till I found your site. so thank you for all you have given to me and the hobby! I have helped out disabled VET's in my home town coming back from war to get in to this hobby and I have sent them to your site to help them out where I did not have the right answers, the good part of this is they are now teaching me things I did not know. So keep up the good work Bruce, thank you.

You have provided a valuable seminar on this subject for beginner FPV pilots!!!! I have been looking for this type of information for weeks. Now I can filter out all the unnecessary gadgets and gizmos that have made getting into FPV so confusing. You make the best informative videos out there. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!!!

Very helpful and informative video. Im new to Quads and FPV and this really got my geek wheels turning and helped me understand what would make sense for my level of flying ability and the equipment I plan to use. Out of approximately 30 videos Ive watched in the past few weeks, this was by far the most informative. Keep it up and thank you!

One of the best overall technical expositions on youtube EVER! Sir, you have a real talent - obviously coupled with loads of experience - that's exquisitely suited to teaching a guy like me (new to FPV but not RC) about one of the more esoteric areas of the hobby. I can't wait to watch your lessons on the other more substantial areas of FPV, and quadcopter platforms. My most sincere thanks for taking the time and applying your talent to help promote our hobby in a fun, safe, technically competent way. TWO THUMBS UP.

Have the 500mW for nearly 2 years. Removed the fan, separated the heat sink from the circuit board which is now mounted inside with the heat sink in the airflow. Switch to activate the transmitter a few minutes before flight. No problems yet even after the day I left the switch on and drained the Li-Po. No obvious transmitter damage visible and it still flies to nearly 3km (2 miles) mainly limited by the 2.4GHz radio transmitter. The clover leaves make a huge improvement to the video signal.

When you double the frequency, you divide the distance of transmission by 2. 3 watts at 1.2ghz will transmit ~14 kilometers, while 3 watts at 2.4ghz will transmit 7km. Above ranges is calculated with antenna gains of 2 dbm each.

Really informative - thanks for all your efforts! Here in the UK, the legal limit for non-licenced 5.8GHz video is only 25mW. I have a full ham licence, so could use much more power *on ground* - but it doesn't cover airborne transmission. So your tips on receiver aerial gain are extremely useful.

Bruce once again you set the gold standard for FPV videos. Another advantage for circular polarization is reduction of multi-path issues. In the US you need a ham license (easy to get) for any radio without a FCCID (the logo is a F with a C inside a C). I am not aware of any FPV transmitter that is certified. Does anyone know of any?
@Eugensdiet10 жыл бұрын

Sound advice. I'm using 2.4GHz for video at the moment using a light 12dbi Yagi on my receiver with a clover skew planar in a diversity arrangement. I also have an 8 turn 2.4Ghz helical but its a bit heavy. The direction of the the turns on the clover attached to the transmitter have to match the direction of the turns on the helical attached to the receiver: right-hand or left-handed. 5.8Ghz is good with decent antennae, and the 5.8GHz antennae are compact.

watching this on February 2016. looking at the transmitters they had then are huge! the one on my dji 450 is 1/8 the size of the smallest of these. interesting how the technology has improved in just three years

+dave1135 The technology has only improved a small amount; however, most transmitters have a massive amount of functions such as switches, wheels, and buttons

- No, a receiver may be operated safely without antenna, although your signal/video will be very weak. - A CP antenna doesn't short out your transmitter. When the antenna is well designed, it (normally) has 50 ohms resistance at its working frequency.

if your only 4 seconds out of flight and you loose complete reception couldnt you qickly tear off the goggles and recover through LOS , thats what id like to think i could do but doing it is another story at the split second moment i suppose , well i can see this fpv thinggy is going to be a fun and exciting learning curve for me which i think i need in my life right now , cheers for the great information here bruce, love your channel and all your efforts that you apply to it , well done bud , some other youtuber is quoteing me around 1800 US dollars for a fpv setup ready to fly and not including shipping you think thats a bit much lol , i thought so im only wanting the basics not a gold dipped platnium setup running on uranium , hahaha cheers bruce, be well and thanx again.

I really appreciate this excellent guide which answered my questions about cloverleaf antennas and whether I really need an enormous power hungry TX. It's useful to have confirmed that my gut instinct about choosing a 200mW TX but paired with a better antenna is a better choice. Anything which requires a heat sink and fan can only drain my model's battery quicker...
