5.9L CUMMINS TURBO AND TUNE INSTALL WITH 300HP GAIN

We started with a stock 2006 Dodge 5.9L Cummins, strapped it to the dyno and made 274HP, then custom tuned it and put it back on the dyno and did the same after installing a 67/67 taterbuilt turbo ending the day at 570HP 1008TQ on an otherwise stock truck.

Just curious what kind of dyno u are running. Also I was thinking I have a 2004 pre cat. Quad cab 24 v Cummins. Have a 5" mbrp straight pipe just a l and n in a stock box. I'm sure I could gain 30 40 horse by deleting the stock box. But it's a 305 horse platform. Unlikely. Running 35" tires 3:73 gears and a 48 RE aluminium shaft 5" as well what is your geuss on rwhp with what I have said. Stock tune as far as I know truck was bought at a dealer with 8700 miles on it. I have had it since at less than 120k

Worry about it because anytime you put power to a motor shits gonna happen. Cummins maybe not at 600hp but your tranny will hate you. That’s what the whole forged internals thing is about build it for 2000hp run it at 1000 to have some reliability

Have you guys done a comparison of a off the shelf tuner like a smarty s06 vs your custom tuning? Currently have a simular setup to this and feel like even tho im on stock fuel that im leaving power on the table. Definitely doesnt feel like a 500hp truck to me.

You should not need a retune until you change your injectors. Tuning controls fuel quantity and your max power tune already has fuel quantity maxed out, adding a turbo simply adds more air (boost) which burns the leftover fuel, giving you a power increase without changing tuning.

For sure! Transmission is not something we took apart to see what was done, the customer bought it like this and was told it had a stock rebuild but wasn't given any details, but we know at 570/1000, a stock transmission will not survive long-term

The fact that you guys started the runs after the peak torque of the motor on either turbo shows all I need to know. 1400 RPM would have been a really good test to do apples to apples here. No one with these trucks in a working environment gives a shit about 2300 RPM and up as we're focused on towing our heavy loads and fuel efficiency that comes along with improved tuning and sufficient power. THIS is why Gale Banks makes fun of the diesel market and what it has become. So sad. I hope this has improved in the last four years.

i had that same truck it was awesome, most people get a smarty its a good tuner for a lot of reasons. Optimalwelding makes some good tunes too, he can make any tune you want and shift on the fly with a 4-6 position switch.

A I got one for you theirs a kid on KZbin with a gt45 on a 6.7 cummin I think the truck is a 07 or 08 he wouldn't say his house power or torque but I'd like to see what a gt45 makes on A 6.7 or 5.9 he said he had it on a Dyno but it's just a suggestion and I don't know what he has for a tune it is a eBay turbo

Mine took 55psi of boost for about three months and it started letting compression rings go had 320k on it and knew I was doing a complete rebuild and had the same question. Max effort tune on mine made 480hp at that time.
