We are happy to see Cartaventura: Oklahoma and really want to check it out. As African Americans in the hobby, themes like this are good to see if done right and we stress, if done right. Plus, for the record, the great law man Bass Reeves was an enslaved human like many of our ancestors in that time and not just a slave. :)

Right! I've seen that it's thought that the Lone Ranger was based upon his feats.

Thank you so much for the Cartaventura coverage, they're written by historians and actors so all the game play and story telling is backed by (crazy interesting) facts. The game designer is mainly changing things from one game to the other to have twists about resources or branches. 100% with you, if you don't won't to read, don't buy it :)

Ooh yay, good to hear good things about Cartaventura! I'm interested in trying them out so I'm glad the writing is good. I also was vaguely interested in Switch & Signal because I thought me playing a cooperative train game would be funny, but "logicistal nightmare" actually sounds really fun!

Great stuff as always Matthew. I remember hearing about Switch and Signal but had forgotten about it until now. I like the look of the Cartaventura games. Hopefully I will be able to find both games at Airecon 🙂

Lookin' good! Hey, can we talk about something that is making me crazy? For some time, I held back on playing old ugly games. What's that game you love and is the ugliest game ever with the boring cover? You know the one... who am I kidding... that describes a lot of games. Pretty damn near every Alea game out there. What's that newish one that you loved... looking it up... this is hard... did it have a fish on the cover?... BGG doesn't have cover description lookups... was it Stephen Feld... wow those are some ugly games... Rosenberg?... I give up, but you know the one... grey/gray box with lady selling a fish on the cover. Went to Dice Tower West and played a few games I was put off of because of their production. I played El Grande, Lords of Vegas, and Puerto Rico and loved them... I'll say that while Vegas looks dated, it isn't ugly. I think that these are great games and should be reprinted but with awesome updates! Why would they just print the same thing over again? These could be modern classics if they just had a little production love. What games need to be reprinted with a little production update to make them awesome? Maybe, Games that I have to beg people to play the first time... games that play better than they look.
