I’m so glad that my tips were useful for you! My herbs are all pretty tall now so I’ve been keeping the light at its maximum height - try to keep your light about 3 to 4 inches away from the top of your plants once they start growing taller. Watch out for the basil though - it takes over everything and grows aggressively! My Thai basil needs to be cut down almost every week! Good luck for your herb garden 🌿

@jenal4162

When and how did you remove some of the seedlings of the heirloom tomatoes (when there were multiple sprouts in each container) and put them into an extra pot to grow? I watched your other videos but you have not mentioned when or how you did that :( ...I just started mine and want to ensure I get the most out of all of the seeds, as well as not disturb the main plant I'm trying to grow . Your videos have been very helpful and the success of your plants have been very fun to watch! -Best Wishes!
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your support! I removed the extra seedlings from the AeroGarden pods after I removed the clear plastic domes. I just very gently pulled out the thinner sprouts - trying not to damage the roots... it will have more chances of survival if it has at least 1 root still attached to it. I then just stuck it in potting soil. The soil planted seedlings are much slower growing than the AeroGarden ones. The next time I replant any of my AGs I will try to record how I did it and post the video here. Happy gardening to you!

You are very organized and resourceful. Thank you for the tips. Can you plant regular seeds in the aerogarden? They seem to have a limited selection of herbs.
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! You can plant regular seeds in the AeroGarden but you will need to get a “grow your own” empty seed pods kit from them or re-use one of their regular seed pods but with your own seeds and grow sponges. Make sure the seeds you choose are for plants that do well in a hydroponic environment and that they grow to a suitable size so that they are not too big for the AGs.

@@homebodydiaries7740 Thank you for this very helpful information. I am trying to decide whether or not it's worth the effort. The aerogarden is quite expensive here in Canada. I get the feeling that it's not so much about saving money, but more of the experience of growing in your own home at any time of year. Am I right?
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is rather expensive unless you buy it second hand! I have the AGs just for the experience of growing something on my own. In terms of money, it is not worth it - but I enjoy the experience more than anything.

Thank you 😊 congratulations on your new hydroponic garden! In my AeroGardens - the motor in the smallest ones (Sprout LED models) runs all the time. In the Harvest models, the motor runs 5 mins once every hour. If you google “(name of your machine) + pump cycle” , you may be able to find more information about it. Hope this helps.

@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Michael! I am not aware of spacer caps for the seed starting system but I will keep looking for them. Maybe you can make some covers with aluminium foil or those thin foam sheets that you can get at craft/dollar stores? You could then tape it down with a light masking tape or painters tape. Duct tape is so annoyingly sticky and leaves a tacky residue once you remove it.

If the pod doesn't sit properly in the base you need to lift and slightly rotate. The sponges aren't floating the pod is hitting the water spout.

Hello. I am waiting for my Aerogarden Harvest to arrive and your tips are great food for thought! A question for you-are you using any additional aeration such as an additional pump? I've read that some have recommended this. What are your thoughts. Thank you for your tips!
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your new AeroGarden Harvest! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it 😊 I am not using additional pumps as of now. I need to look it up and see if I need to get some...The AG Harvest and Bounty models seem to work fine without it. My AG Sprouts seem to struggle a bit when all 3 seed pods are used and the roots grow out of control- the Basil roots choke the life out of everything else! I just give them a small trim when that happens (cutting off no more than 1/3rd of the entire root). I learnt my lesson with the mistake I did with the Harvest- planting all the openings! The next time I will plant only 2 seed pods in the Harvest so that they have enough space to grow.

Homebody Diaries good to know! Do you need to cover the unused holes to prevent light contributing to algae growth? I love your idea of the growth chart and the tip about the dry erase markers. Still waiting for my garden-hopefully next couple of days.
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I will definitely recommend that the unused spaces are covered - I’ve seen folks use bottle caps, golf balls or the plastic spacers that AeroGarden sells to cover these. I used cardboard at the beginning to cover it and I found that some algae grew anyway as the cardboard wasn’t enough to block all the light.

I intend to use homemade liquid nutrient for the large aerogarden.What are your recommendations as to what amount to add every two weeks? TIA
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 3 жыл бұрын
Bob Johnson For my 6 pod AeroGarden harvest (with tomatoes) I use 8 ml of the AG plant food every two weeks. It is a liquid plant food with 4-3-6 composition ( nitrogen: phosphate: potash). If you go to the AeroGarden website you should be able to find out more details about the plant food. Sometimes I add a few extra mls of plant food if I think my plant is looking dull.

Thank you for watching my video 😊 I have enjoyed my aerogardens a lot. They are really addictive. The only drawback I found was that I had to ask my friend to come in and refill the water when I was out of town for a week especially for the tomatoes (we used to travel a lot before the pandemic). It hasn’t attracted any bugs yet so I’m keeping my fingers crossed 🤞

Joya Kennedy In the AG models without a clock, the lighting timer cycle will start if you u plug it. You may need to wait till you want the lighting to start and unplug and re-plug it in. Hope this helps!

Question. I especially use the Aerogarden for herbs but they grow pretty fast so they rich max hight as in fully raised lamps and hits lamps (and they burn than). I understood that at that time it is possible to transfer to normal plant pots but I tried that a few times with herbs and tomatoes (since tomato plants become very big) but they die pretty quick. Can you show me how to transfer from aerogarden to pots successfully that would be most helpful especially since I would love to grow flowers as well and than put them in my living.
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
I have also tried to transfer grown plants from the AG to regular pots but they died out. I have only successfully transferred tomato plants when they were about an inch tall. I think you have to transfer them before their roots get too big and used to the water. I will post a video the next time I need to transplant something.
@doublefistangel
@doublefistangel 4 жыл бұрын
I have successfully transplanted many dozens of plants from my aerogarden harvest using the seed starter lid and from regular baskets. Depending on the plant and roots I usually wait until they are 3-6" high, then twirl the roots into 4" peat pots with moisture control potting soil and place under a grow light. I keep them soaked for the first few days, then wean them, then harden them to the outside. I think this really requires a grow lamp, if you just put the hydroponic plant outside in soil it would struggle. I've read you can place the whole aerogarden basin outside for increasing amounts of time to strengthen them as an alternative

Hello! I have a couple questions. Is it noisy? What model do you like the most?
@homebodydiaries7740
@homebodydiaries7740 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The AeroGardens differ in the noises produced - the pump keeps running in the Sprout models when the lights are on so it is like a light bubbling sound. I think it is comparable to an aquarium pump sound. The pump has a vent that sometimes gets blocked with roots or excess nutrients but that can be cleaned out with a toothbrush or bent paper clip. The Harvest model is quieter. Sometimes if the water level is too low it makes a squeaking or splashing noise which is easily fixed by adding water. I found the bright lights to be harder to get used to than the sounds! My favorite model is the AG Bounty which I will get soon. The Harvest is a close second.
