Even for such a small wine appellation like Brunello di Montalcino, it still offers great diversity in wine styles and, of course, price ranges. And despite its small production, this Italian red wine from Tuscany can still be relatively affordable. In this video I will cover my top 5 affordable and great Brunello di Montalcino wines.

il poggione vintages 2015 and 2016 are stunning. Tasted a 2015 at christmas, so charming, fresh and polished tannins.

Couldn't agree with you more. I've been fortunate to stock up on Il Poggione BdMs from 2011 to 2016 while in Hong Kong, where they could be had for merely 30 USD a bottle. Even now, I still think they are a bit too young. Cheers!

This specific video was made to find a value within the Brunelloworld. 😉 I do like the elegance of the northern part of Montalcino, but these also tend to be more expensive. 🤷‍♀️ And those that You mentioned definitely enter ultra premium price category. 😢😢😢

Agree with most on the list (never tried Lisini) my other all time Fav VFM - Brunello is Argiano, 2010,15 etc all magic

Way better to buy a case of more affordable brunellos than just a couple of the more expensive ones. The likelihood for at least one bottle to survive until the proper drinking window opens is then much higher 😉 And with that I'm thinking maybe 10years (+) after the harvest. Especially these days since you might still find some 2016's laying around which would be a good bet to store away in your cellar 🍷

I agree. I have laid my hand on as much as possible 2016 brunellos from good producers thats not too expensive around 20 euro. San felice when its on sale for instance. But only 2017 left now. Other good ones too.

Try out "Az.Agr.Palazzo" and "Fornacina" (39€ to 54€) They're both great. You can also get some rare vintages at the cellar. Another great one is "Le Potazzine"

@@NoSediment No worries! Lots of great wines from the region. Brunello is the wine that got me “into” wines in late 2019 when we went to Tuscany. Never knew wine could be that amazing. 3 1/2 years later I’ve done IWS, WSET2 and WSET3, considering my DIPSet, built a wine cellar, been to industry tastings to review wines for restaurant wine programs and read probably 35 books and still don’t know much! 😁😁

I was told by the winery people that 2015 was the last vintage of Altesino's Montosoli, because they were ripping out and replanting that plot of land on the hilltop. But there seem to be plenty of newer vintages on the market now. Wonder what happened to...

Interesting indeed. I was just couple of months ago there and they didn’t tell me this. Maybe slight change of plans? To my knowledge they were also one of the first to start bottling single vineyard Brunello’s. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Was that la magia the normale or riserva version? And do you find riservas worth the price premium?

I am not sure I touched La Magia here, therefore I don’t know. 😢 However, regarding Your second question, I do think that Brunello tends be aged long enough, and there is not always reason to pay premium price for Riserva. 😬 But it just my personal view. 🤷‍♀️

wondering what the best vintages are between 2014 2020.......my wine stores near me are only carrying 2017 under 85 dollars

If I would have a chance and something to choose from, I would go for 2016 vintage, and I would not say no 2015. 😉 2014 is the one I would be most careful with. For some wines 2017 might be missing freshness, but it really depends. ⚡️
