The advantage of the electric organ over the piano is that when I make mistakes, it sounds even better! 😄

Heres a tip, if the blues is major, use the relative minor blues scale instead. A minor blues scale over this

Would be interesting to know why notes outside of the minor Blues scale works in the first example.
@marshallsmith13662 ай бұрын
That is because that lick is a dominant chord voicing using the mixolydian thirds. Mixolydian is the scale source for dominant chords, I don't know why she mentioned minor pentatonic, maybe that is how she was taught.

Cool licks Marine! 4th lick not easy for me. But it only first impression so I have to more practice And I have a question about first lick. Why you playing every time double notes 3d and 5th fingers? For me to play first time 3d and 5th fingers and then 2d and 4th more comfortable

It's a basic phrase with short sounds, but it's really cool. I subscribed to your You Tube channel.

You CANNOT become a better musician/improviser by learning LICKS! Concepts, yes. Chord voicings, sure.Other people's phrases? Listen, get the CONCEPT, than play YOU ideas...We borrow phrasing all the tme, but just in passing, not as a source or motivator... IMHO as jazz organist/pianist for 65 years...

I agree! You need to learn foundation and how to use them 😊 these are just cool ideas you can use and get inspiration from. Most of the time I will take a lick and change it so it sounds like my own! That’s how you create your own sound and musical language 😊

You're finally giving names to scales I taught myself when I played keyboard in a band. Way back in the day! Thank You! Well worth the wait especially now trying to make sense of all these scales on guitar! Was on the verge of giving up after years flying blind but this gives me hope!

I never really understand when you play c7 should you play cmajor or cminor scale?
@OnlineRockLessons9 ай бұрын
Hey! On a blues you can use both! :) That’s part of the bluesy sound. And it’s usually pentatonic scales. But you can also use other scales such as the mixolydian mode.

I'm a guitarist that always messed around with keyboards too. Do you have any tips on transposing keyboard licks on the fly? For guitar you learn a lick in one key and you automatically know it in all keys, but for keyboards I ofcourse can't do that and it's holding me back massively
@OnlineRockLessons10 ай бұрын
Hey!! Yes I know!! Transposing on a guitar is so easy! But yeah it’s harder on the piano. If you know your scale you can use the notes degrees or go with step and half step. Honestly it’s a process to practice when transposing on the piano!
@SaintYaronimo10 ай бұрын
@@OnlineRockLessons So should I just learn every lick I learn in all keys?
@chrismowag691910 ай бұрын
@@SaintYaronimo yep, that’s the drawback on the piano. On the other hand you can play it instantly in any octave 😉
@qddk95457 ай бұрын
The lazy way is to use transpose on the KB. But that will never make you a good player.
