This was great. I've had to argue with many fellow vegans who say "owning an obligate carnivore isn't vegan because you have to buy them meat." The response is, "it's too late, we've already domesticated them, and if we were to leave them to their own devices, (like she said) they'd get hit by cars, eaten etc." The compassionate thing to do, is care for our carnivorous pets to the best of our vegan abilities.

The significance of a vegan owning a carnivore depends on whether the vegan in question has chosen their lifestyle for health or moral reasons. If one is a vegan strictly for a healthier lifestyle then owning a carnivore and feeding it meat is irrelevant.

Xenu Novak By that standard you can say being a vegan is unnatural because we are supposed to eat meat because we evolved to do so e.g teeth (the meat industry however is totally unnatural). Cats are obligate carnivores because that's how they have evolved and to feed them anything else would be cruelty, also keeping a cat indoors is also wrong because cats hunt, roam, and need to explore of which their basic needs cannot be met in a house - yes they may get knocked down or injured but it's just life and the idea that humans need to look after cats is ridiculous because they have survived fine without domestication and have evolved over time!

I like cats but I'm a massive dog person, I just can't help it!! I love them! So naturally I disliked the bits where she was confused about why people like dogs, but I can totally relate to how she feels about her weird little kitty! That feeling of love from another being, it's a non verbal connection you share, and in some ways can be the purest form of love.

Yeah I like Mayim but she's biased. I'd prefer dogs not only because of their mental ability to learn things that help people (like service dogs) but also because of their loyalty. But what she's describing is mainly an untrained dog with separation anxiety that hasn't been taught rules and boundaries. That's not all dogs. They're a lot of work but it is well worth it when done right. At least you can't call a dog lover lazy lol.

Cats can be trained also - I have 2 and most the time they dont chew or break anything in my house, don't think she meant any bad of that, are just facts. Dogs indeed have much more habit of chewing things, even as adult. Cats only do it when stressed, not happy. It was just her personal opinion on why she rather have cats than dogs.

Cat lady here, really loved this video, loved everything she said about cats and her relationship with her kitty. About the litter box though, I usually had to clean mine just about every day, not once a week. And that was with just one cat. But it sure beats having to pick up dog poop. My cats love to claw, but have built them a clawry thingy plus they know which chair their allowed to claw, but they do chew also, if something is sticking out so we have to b carefull of phone charger wires and shoe laces as she tries to chew and eat them. Often find soggy bits of things on the floor that i try and work out what on earth they were to begin with and where on earth she got them from in the first place. Girl cat always hides feathers and beads or favourites under the hallway rug! Very cute, kinda crunches as you step on it, and u think what's she hidden now?

I'm not a fan of jumpcuts, though I understand that I'm in the minority on that one. *But* I despise background music. Not only is it distracting, as a hard-of-hearing person, background music often makes it difficult to hear/understand what the person is saying -- particularly if it's a voiceover and I can't see the person to lip-read.

the reason they feel unnatural is because there's a little pause after the jumpcut, before she starts speaking. it's kinda like catching someone doing something slightly embarrassing. (I gotta give Hank Green credit, cause I learned that from him). I really liked the video anyway, it was really adorable and cats are the best. I'm pretty impressed. it's gotta be tough having the pressure of a big audience when you've just started something completely new.

I always loved cats, my whole life, and i was always around cats when i was younger, and i still love them more than any other animal on earth, even though i like dogs alot, cats will always be my favorite animal, and they are so unique in their personality, so independent, and they only do what they want, they don`t like to be trained like dogs do. I love dogs, but cats are so special, and my favorite cat was a white and black cat, i had for a long time, growing up, and it was very special, almost like a human, not the cuddliest cat, and sometimes pretty grumpy, but it was so very special, and always liked to check new things out, and one day it even showed where the dog had run, when it escaped, yes it walked ahead, and when the dog was on a lead, it walked back down and kept resting on the driveway, i lived in a tiny 1 store, 1 school semi rural Swedish village back then.

I can smell a cat box from the front door. I keep short hair hounds and give them a monthly scrubbing. They act like they're at a spa. They would let me wash them ALL DAY long. I challenge anybody to find a cat box that smells better than my dogs. They also swim in the pool from May up until October or so. Keep them brushed and feed'em good chow. Dogs have a funk but nothing compared to a cat box.

LizTiddington I guess we wouldn't be if we were just allergic to their hair. But I heard some people are allergic to proteins in the cat's urine, saliva and dried flakes of skin (dander) too, where a lick from can lead to hives or rashes, and airborne dander would cause constant sneezing.

I have two indoor cats. I have had dogs most of my young life. Then we had no pets for a long time, except our cockatiel who lived 27 years!!! We love our girls. They are rescues and they love us! They come when called and are clean and happy and funny and sweet!

You're wrong about dogs, that wet-beach-never-dried-off smell is the best! ;) Our dog and cat are both so full of personality, and it's really fun to notice that the cat likes belly rubs "like a dog," and the dog loves to go in and out. I have 6 cats, I love them all. They don't claw the furniture as I trained them to post and scratch pads. They never leave a mess, they always use the box. They all have different personalities and they all love me.

Your precious kitty reminds me of my lil princess! When I got her, I'm pretty sure I was miss-informed of her real age. She was absolutely tiny, but then again, she was also the runt of the litter. So, ever since I got her she would ALWAYS cling to me when I picked her up. I think she may have had separation anxiety, to be honest. I now have countless scars across my shoulders, but they're all worth it. She always let me rub her belly as well, and whenever I said "Giz a cuddle" she would bury her face in my neck. X3
