I'm pretty sure the orb weavers would prefer not to accidentally catch a bird and have their webs ruined. I've seen birds fly straight through the centre of orb webs. Afterwards the orb weaver spider aint there no more!
@Nigel_BC2 жыл бұрын
@@glennbabic5954 It depends on the species of orb weaver but yeah I think generally they prefer smaller prey. Lions prefer Wildebeest and antelope but they can take down a giraffe and they do on occasion. I think that’s kind of what this video was about. Most herons prefer smaller fish but given the opportunity they will take an alligator or shark.

Speaking of reversing predator-prey relationships, growing up in rural Colorado, there was a billboard along the highway with a painting of a heron eating a frog, but the frog had its hands around the heron’s neck. It was captioned, “Never give up.”

That actually happens with a certain species of octopus. If a houndshark grabs it, it blocks the gills with its tentacles which forces the shark to let go, or it will suffocate. It's literally a chokehold.

Ants are pretty cool and also a big example of this reverse predator prey relationship
@randomcommenter14332 жыл бұрын
Here's another reverse predator-prey relationship: big python and a mongoose. Mongooses have gained a reputation for mass-murdering all kinds of snakes they can sink their teeth into, even the black mambas and king cobras. But when it comes to the big pythons like Burmese and retic, it's a whole different story. Normally, a little baby/hatchling is an easy meal, but a fully grown individual (around 5 or 6 meters long) is an instant game over for the mongoose.

@jaschabull23652 жыл бұрын
It's not only fish in the case of dragonfly nymphs - those guys also eat tadpoles, so frogs start out as insect prey before they grow up to be insect predators. And of course there are some spiders that can eat birds. I guess most of them don't specifically favour birds as prey, but it's still pretty impressive to hear they've been known to catch them. Speaking of spiders and odonata, I think there are a few cases of odonata (which is what dragonflies are, though in this case it might be damselflies) that eat spiders, reversing the typical case of spiders eating insects.

Can you make a video of prey on prey predation like how sometimes baboons will grab and eat alive baby impala or how warthogs will eat alive baby gazelle?
