I really like your videos! There is a Dutch expression: "Better stolen good, then figured out/invented bad" which this quote reminded me of. I once stole the idea of using a trowel, and I still use it a lot, and learned how to use it in different ways myself.

Interesting! There's a lot of painting knives that are designed with the look of a trowel, but never thought of just using a regular one.

@@cinderblockstudios I do use a plastic one, afraid I otherwise might damage paper or cotton. But I did buy it a the construction market for virtually nothing. I think abstract paintings or painting which can use some 'chaos' work best for an actual trowel.

Dude I'd be pissed if someone stole my techniques. Other artists haven't really been supportive and I've had to work for every single fan when others pour paint on a canvas and have 50x times the following I have. I've worked hard to come up with techniques that make me standout so it would kill me if another artist stole what I'm doing.

Techniques are all just about how each artist finds ways of learning from others that came before them. Sounds to me like you haven't "stolen" enough from your inspirations...and also haven't really found artists that want you to grow. No one really OWNS a technique. They might be things that you do, but the finished piece is the only thing that's yours.
